Turmeric, how much to take in a day

Perhaps it was more in vogue some time ago, now it is less "in the spotlight", but it is still worth knowing and using it.

We speak of turmeric (Curcuma longa), a plant with ocher-yellow roots commonly used in oriental cuisine, particularly in India, where the health benefits are also well known.

The name derives from the Sanskrit, and is the main ingredient of the Indian curry .

In addition to being a tasty ingredient to use in cooking and coloring, it is a truly powerful natural remedy, with some limitations. We begin to understand how much turmeric we take per day and why.

Turmeric, how much do you take in a day?

Most of the studies carried out on turmeric have shown that its beneficial health effects (due to curcumin) are obtained with an amount even higher than 1 gram per day !

It is therefore difficult to reach active levels of curcumin in the blood simply by adding turmeric to our food in the kitchen, because the quantity we use as a spice is very low, so as not to alter the flavor of the dishes excessively.

We will increase the absorption of curcumin (which starts in the intestine) in 2 ways:

> Taking piperine at the same time (which ensures 2000% increase in bioavailability): add a few grains of pepper to our curry.

> Consuming fats at the same time, better if vegetable oils (extra virgin olive oil, coconut oil), since curcumin is very soluble in fats.

A valid alternative to use turmeric taking advantage of its beneficial properties are the supplement tablets, designed to achieve maximum absorption. Usually one tablet is taken a day, preferably during a meal.

Turmeric, why take it every day?

Several studies have been carried out to confirm the beneficial health effects of turmeric .

It is worth taking each day for these remarkable properties:

> Anti - inflammatory properties : turmeric intake is effective in fighting chronic inflammation and has interesting properties also in the treatment of degenerative diseases with an inflammatory component.

Studies focus mainly on inflammation of nerve cells and joints.

> Antioxidant properties: the oxidative damage caused by free radicals is now considered one of the mechanisms underlying aging and various diseases.

Free radicals are able to interact with proteins, fatty acids and with our DNA causing alterations of the functions they perform.

> Improvement of arthritis symptoms : the anti-inflammatory action of curcumin makes it useful for alleviating the symptoms associated with arthritis, by acting on the causes that cause it.
