> anti-inflammatory : the elder is a broad-spectrum remedy that counteracts the inflammatory states that affect our body. In addition to the inflammations of the respiratory tract, as already indicated, bronchitis, sinusitis, rhinitis, also acts as a sedative of inflammation of the urinary tract, such as cystitis, prostatitis;
Indicated to be taken even if one has been subjected to antibiotic treatments that have somehow altered the intestinal bacterial flora and the immune system, leaving an open door to the inflammations typical of this condition of weakness;
> diuretic : the elder facilitates the water recycling of our body, stimulating diuresis, the physiological renal purification activity; thanks to this property it is indicated for a periodic detoxification urging the excretory organs. It is in fact a very effective remedy in the case of gout, excess of uric acids;
> analgesic : thanks to its anti-inflammatory properties, the elderberry also performs a mild consequential analgesic action and can be useful in case of headache and back pain if of an inflammatory nature.
How to take the elderberry
On the market we can find various forms of elderberry phytotherapy.
> In cut herbal tea from flowers, suitable for preparing hot infusions useful in case of flu, rhinitis, sinusitis and bronchitis, because it has an emollient, expectorant, warming action ;
> the fluid extract in phytocomplex with flowers and berries, often associated with other synergistic remedies such as plantain, honey, for a syrup-like product to take the need and soothe the oral cavity and the upper respiratory tract.
> In hydroalcoholic extract, the tincture is to be taken dissolved in water and used in case of inflammation, or to detoxify and drain the organism periodically .
Warnings on the use of elderberry
Elderberry stimulates intestinal activity and if taken for long periods it could cause diarrhea, nausea. Given its draining and diuretic properties, it is not recommended for those suffering from kidney failure.
Pay attention to the do-it-yourself collection of elderberries, since Sambucus Nigra could be confused with Sambucus Ebulus whose fruits are toxic.
