Perugia Flower Show 2012: taking care of the garden opens the heart

In 1995, Bruce Springsteen released his single called Secret Garden . The song, then included in the soundtrack of the film Jerry Maguire, describes a woman with a dense, beautiful world to discover, like a secret garden. And the garden, as we know, is made of smells, splendid colors that guide, captivate and cure.

In Perugia from 25 to 27 May 2012 you can experience this chromatic and olfactory explosion at the gardens of the Frontone, on the occasion of the Perugia Flower Show.

Three days dedicated to floriculture and quality gardening . The event, an exhibition of rare and unusual plants, reaches its 5th edition and the excellence of the most prestigious national fairs, with 65 of the best producers and nursery owners in Italy. The protagonists? Flowers, of every variety and species available in our rich territory: in particular, cultivation of new botanical varieties, ancient and little known plants.

The exhibition reaches its 5th edition with many new features: shows, children's entertainment and entertainment service, basic gardening courses for children held by children, specialized gardening courses for adults taught by experts in the field, demonstrations and exhibitions of floral art.

We asked some questions to Lucia Boccolini, General Manager of the event.

The great American scientist and lecturer Alex Shigo - advocate and prophet of a new biology of the tree - wanting to give voice to those who do not have a voice, made hang on the trunks of a forest many tags with the motto-invitation "touch me" (touch me) ...

At the Flower Show there will be a way to get closer not only to plants, but also to new perspectives of floriculture, through the comparison with Italian culture masters.

During the days of the Flower Show the election of the rarest plant will take place. Any anticipation on potential candidates?

The rarest plant will be elected during the autumn edition which will be held from September 22nd to 23rd at the gardens of the pediment and unfortunately we will give some anticipation in a couple of months unfortunately.

In collaboration with the Hera Group (Holding Energia Risorse Ambiente), the Flower Show has given birth to Nature energy! This initiative enriches the program of a popular note that we would call essential in this historical moment, since it is close to the themes of ecology and environmental awareness. How was this partnership born with the Emilia Romagna group for years in the field of energy resources?

The partnership was born in the 2011 edition where the Hera group participates as an exhibitor. Satisfied with the work carried out, this year the group decided to invest in Perugia Flower Show 2012, creating a series of events dedicated to children, all on the theme of light .

The events are "History of a Ray of Light" and " Colored Shadows" which are educational laboratories that bring children closer to the theme of light linked to the environment in general.

All we do is talk about garden therapy, it is proposed as a fashion but in reality the equation is simple. We get closer to the earth, we get closer to ourselves. During the previous editions, did you feel that you were collecting an overall positive outcome, or that you have helped people to bridge the gap between themselves and the earth as a mother and an element?

Yes. The past editions have managed to bring the majority of the participating audience in a concrete manner with their hands in the ground . We have managed to train thousands of people in just five editions, but we hope to be able to train many more by introducing ever newer and more relaxing techniques.

Treating plants will be an essential element for the life of many of the participants in this new edition.

We were intrigued by the fact that the program includes basic gardening courses ... taught by children! How did you organize this absolute and original novelty?

We realized that children are much better than adults, they put a lot of passion and commitment into it and are able to communicate unconditionally.

This year the event will also have a fall date, precisely 22 and 23 September. How and where did the idea or the need to add an autumn date come from?

Having little space compared to the requests we receive for the spring date, we decided to divide the two blooms. In any case, the autumn flowering includes many blooms similar to the spring ones, but devotes ample space to ancient fruit and much more not found in spring. Every respectable flower-growing fair has its own autumn date.

All colors of chromopuncture

Alexander of Aphrodisias, Roger Bacon, Qutb al-Din al-Shirazi, Descartes, Newton and many other historical figures have lingered long on the chromatic arc that is not in the sky, but depends on the position of the observer, which is consistency of the dispersion and refraction of the sun. We are talking about the rainbow , the wonderful arch that holds seven colors (many limit themselves to counting six, neglecting the nuance of the purple color known as indigo)...
