Menopause, the homeopathic natural remedies

By Dr. Francesco Candeloro

Menopause is a physiological period of the woman that coincides with the end of menstruation and, above all, of its reproductive function. It is often accompanied by various disorders that can find relief in homeopathic remedies. Let's find out how.

Causes and symptoms of menopause

Menopause is often accompanied by a series of disorders, which involve both the physical sphere of the person, but also, often, the emotional sphere .

These manifestations are often preceded by a more or less long period, which leads to the actual menopause, in which the disorders are transient, and menstruation begin to become very irregular in quantity and duration; this period goes by the name of climacteric .

In recent years, also thanks to some media information campaigns probably used for commercial purposes, menopause has become a period of the woman's life lived with anxiety and concern, almost as if her appearance could be related to a true illness and own, including variegated physical and temperamental aspects which, if not treated, could have serious consequences.

In reality the hormonal changes that occur in menopause, and the reorganization of the organism in relation to the fact that one of its functions, the reproductive one, fails, entail the appearance of a series of disorders that can be easily controlled with homeopathic treatment also only of prevention, and which include the so-called hot flashes, a greater dryness of the mucous membranes, a vitamin D deficiency which, in a percentage of cases, can be associated with even severe bone demineralization (osteoporosis), the tendency to overlap due to relative hypothyroidism and, obviously, disorders of mood which are often nothing more than the slatentisation of pre-existing emotional states which, due to the onset of the aforementioned illnesses, become more evident and defined in this phase.

Over the years, in these cases, traditional treatments have followed one another and, after a period of clamor and general consensus, hormone replacement therapy has become the subject of criticism for greater exposure of patients to tumors of the uterus and breast, and probably also a greater risk of intravascular coagulation processes (thrombosis).

The dreaded osteoporosis, then led to the almost indiscriminate administration of calcium and vitamin D supplements, regardless of the actual risk of fracture of the patients, and natural supplements, more or less miraculous, which should lead to relief from hot flashes, mood swings and insomnia, typical of this period.

Homoepathic remedies for menopausal disorders

As we have already said , homeopathy offers a very valid alternative to traditional treatments, also and above all for its holistic character, which allows us to face the many and diversified disorders with only one remedy at a time, chosen on the basis of peculiar characteristics and individual, which also have their origin in the anatomical conformation (constitution) of the person.

It is not rational, let alone methodologically correct, to try to cure single symptoms associated with menopause with homeopathy, precisely because an approach extended to the whole person can quickly prove useful both in the mitigation / resolution of symptoms and in their prevention., making also the climacteric - in those who begin the homeopathic treatments well before the menopause - a period often characterized by changes mainly of the genital-reproductive function, that is without particular implications on other aspects of the person's vitality.

Precisely because of what we have said, at this point, we cite, only as examples, some remedies that differ for very specific symptomatic characteristics, and above all in relation to marked constitutional differences.

And so in the patent or carbonic constitutions, which often tend to accumulation and retention pathology, two remedies will be the most prescribed:

  • Thuja, in subjects with an active and frantic temperament, who are often prey to states of anxiety before engagements, and in the presence of passenger illnesses, with a mostly obsessive background;
  • Graphites, decidedly more sluggish in the reactions and therefore highly irresolute all those times that must make some decision.

We will find Lachesis, instead, in long-limbed sulfuric constitutions, where the vasomotor disorders will be more evident due to its original hyperactivity of the arterial circle, and will have their correspondent in the indisputable and logorroic speech.

Finally, in the less active long-limbed constitutions, so to speak in the phosphoric in the muriatici, in which the tendency to the closure of the character and to the aversion towards thirds becomes more and more pronounced, other two remedies will intervene, that is respectively Ignatia in the first and Sepia in seconds.

Substances and active ingredients

In nature, plants are the main "producers" of active ingredients as they are the only ones to provide living beings with organic substance and oxygen, using only the sun, water and minerals present in the soil. Over time, man has learned to use other natural substances, not of plant origin, to heal and stay healthy...
