Rosa canina, the cosmetic properties



We have learned to associate dog rose with vitamin C due to the presence of L-Ascorbic acid. It is in fact one of the most used herbal remedies in phytotherapy to make vitamin C in synergistic compounds.

Also in phytocosmetics the dog rose occupies a prominent place for its contents of flavonoids, tannins, polyphenols and fatty acids, vitamin A, vitamin E, linoleic acid, trans-retinoic acid, which give an effective antioxidant action .

In herbal medicine and in phytocosmetics, rosehip cinorroids are used, intense red berries, which are also very pleasing to the eye.

Properties of dog rose

The most used formulations in cosmetics are rosehip oil and also decoction, which has excellent eudermic properties:

> regenerating power : able to help tissue restructuring, in case of scars or acne lesions, thus speeding up the regeneration times of the epidermal layers, thanks to the presence of vitamin A;

> toning: the rosehip oil has elasticizing properties, indicated in the case of sun-burned skin, dehydrated and dry skin ;

> rebalancing : the application of rosehip oil is useful in case of impure, mixed or oily which needs to be normalized. Thanks to the presence of tannins it has an astringent action. The decoction can replace the tonic, to be used after cleansing the face to restore the hydrolipidic film and rebalance the skin.

> antioxidant : thanks to the presence of vitamin A, C and E, Rosa Canina oil is an excellent anti-wrinkle phytocosmetic, it can be added to the day or night cream used to enhance its effect.

How to use rose hip oil

On the market we can find pure Rosehip oil, odorless, to be used in various ways, both as a carrier oil to mix synergistic essential oils, and alone with different functions :

> detergent : the oil in general has marked detergent properties, able to degrease, clean and moisturize. Rosehip oil in particular is particularly delicate and can be an excellent solution for evening face cleansing, even from makeup;

> moisturizing : rosehip oil can be used as a moisturizing base on the skin of the face to which, depending on the needs of the skin, at atmospheric conditions, if necessary add a day or night cream.

> elasticising : after showering, Rosa Canina oil can be a useful substitute for body cream, which can also be applied to the arms and legs to elasticize and tone the tissues and counteract the formation of stretch marks.

> nourishing : even the hair can be treated with rosehip oil, to regenerate the entire stem or just the tips. Applied warm to the hair before shampooing, it is well absorbed by the porosity of the hair, it has an antioxidant and nourishing action, to be left on for about ten minutes and then to be washed.
