Travel notes in the direction of the Casentino Forest Park, Carnia and towards long group walks or solo walks.

New Year in the Park

What is proposed is a tour of the Casentino Forest National Park, between Romagna and Tuscany. A marvel of nature, of villages and towns, tradition and culture, even culinary.

Those who love to photograph and experience adventure will find here an open-air playground, among unspoiled nature, lakes and mountains, and animals such as deer, badgers, porcupines, robins and many others. The route winds through towns such as Portico di Romagna, Premilcuore, Santa Sofia and the nearby Lake Ridracoli, Borgo di Romagna, Bibbiena, Poppi, Pratovecchio, Londa, San Godenzio and Tredozio .

This strip of the Apennines struck and influenced in the holy centuries, like St. Francis himself, who made it their place of meditation, writers, painters and artists in general.

Among the most illustrious visitors that the park includes there is undoubtedly Dante, who was particularly struck by the waterfall of Acquacheta which he celebrated in a song of Hell.

Within the Park territory and in the immediate vicinity there are many accommodation facilities : shelters, hotels, campsites, hostels, holiday farms, holiday homes, landlords and apartments, bed & breakfasts, guest houses.

Some structures are distinguished by the "Park Recommended Exercises" logo: these are accommodation facilities that have adhered to an Ecological Disciplinary proposed by the Authority, whose purpose is to improve the services offered to tourists, especially in terms of environmental quality. By train, the park can be reached from the stations of Bibbiena, Poppi, Pratovecchio and Stia on the Casentinese side and from the Station of Pontassieve and Contea-Londa on the Mugellano side.

On the Romagna side, the Park can be reached from the stations of Faenza, Forlì and Cesena. In addition there are various bus lines that reach the Park centers.

For those who like to venture in the company, the WWF still offers the last places to leave for New Year: in the Casentino forests, but also in the Abruzzo National Park, but also in Puglia, Andalusia and Mallorca!

Why not try a spiritual-veg new year?

The magic of Carnia

Carnia, in Friuli, is one of the least-known lands in Italy, but a destination for tourism based on greenery, history, traditions and flavors. THE

n Carnia in winter you can ski and snowshoe, but you can also take beautiful walks and enjoy beautiful views, as well as discover the quiet life of characteristic villages, such as Forni, Ravascletto, Zoncolan, Sauris, Sutrio (famous for woodworking ) or Tolmezzo.

There is also plenty of water, in fact in Arta Terme a valid thermal establishment is active, offering high quality wellness treatments.

Let's not forget the magic of the lakes, Lake Mediana or Lake Cavazzo, for example, among the most beautiful in Italy. Carnia is also known for its local traditions and craftsmanship, which see wood as the protagonist; it is a land that gave birth to master carpenters, carpenters and carvers, whose works still reside in the luxurious Venetian houses.

In the town of Aplis, in the Municipality of Ovaro, in addition to the Wood Museum, there is also the Venetian Sawmill. We end by quoting the flavors: cured meats (known as Sauris ham), but also cheese and craft beer. Where to sleep? Do not worry, Carnia is full of farmhouses, B & Bs, widespread hotels that respect the environment and nature.

In Carnia you can also arrive by train, the nearest station is precisely that of Carnia, on the Rome-Vienna line; it is also possible to get off at Udine, and from here continue with a regular bus, departing every hour, whose journey takes about 45 minutes.

The charm of the walker

For those who love walking, even on New Year's Eve, maybe they want to do it in a group, in simplicity, to increase their spirit, hands in their pockets, in silence, and to share experiences with new friends, more and more groups are proposing new destinations, like for example, it proposes the association Le vie dei canti, which starts on the path of "walking in small groups on the paths of the world".

The group proposes for the New Year the Camino de Santiago in the Portuguese version, the desert in Morocco, walks in Salento and around Lake Bolsena, a fascinating scenery and cradle of saints and brigands. And for those who are more daring, a suggestion is to be inspired by the children's book (but not only!) By Paolo Rumiz "A Piedi" and to follow his steps from his beloved Trieste.

Dried fruit calendar

Not to be confused with dried fruit , we call some particularly nutritious seeds dry because of their contents of vitamins, minerals and oils, precious for our health and since ancient times cultivated and integrated in the human diet (and even earlier, in that of primates). Eaten naturally, reduced to flour, used in confectionery, processed into spreadable, toasted creams , dipped in honey, molasses or syrup, or drunk in a vegetable milk version, every particular dried fruit has an ideal season throughout the year ...
