And the other mothers are questioned online, in the forums, waiting for the pediatric visit. That, just as often, decides the diagnosis of atopic dermatitis of the newborn . Atopic dermatitis is a frequent phenomenon in children, even small ones, it can remain until adolescence and in some cases in adulthood . What are the symptoms of atopic dermatitis in children? But above all, what are the remedies? Moms, and even Dad, try to take a look below.

Atopic dermatitis in children: symptoms

The symptoms of eczema or atopic dermatitis appear between 2 and 6 months of age and can vary greatly in the early stages; the main ones are:

- Reddened and dry skin

- Itch

- Small bubbles on cheeks, forehead, scalp and later on arms, trunk and legs

- Red lesions covered with scabs or open

- Swollen, itchy or peeling lesions on the elbows, shoulders, wrists, ankles, behind the knees

In older children there may be different symptoms:

- The lesions are less moist

- There is more flaking of the skin

- The skin is very dry and itchy

- There are superinfections, as children scratch themselves to relieve itching and can infect the lesion

Over time the symptoms cyclically worsen and then regress until improvement, and then undergo periodic relapses.

Atopic dermatitis of children: remedies

The causes of atopic dermatitis in children are still not entirely clear; the suspects are many: new foods introduced with weaning, an intestinal flora still "settling", contact with some additives used for personal hygiene or clothes ...

We can therefore remedy only by acting on the external symptoms, in various ways. With the opinion of the pediatrician, here are the best remedies for atopic dermatitis symptoms in children:

- Pay attention to clothing : do not cover the child too much (perspiration favors itching), prefer cotton in contact with the skin, avoid synthetic fabrics and wool (often itch); to wash them use a normal detergent, but rinse thoroughly; finally, avoid hanging out if there is a smog or pollen

- Pay attention to the home environment : do not heat the rooms too much; change air every day, even in winter; eliminate allergens such as dust, animal hair, mites (avoid carpeting and duvets); avoid cigarette smoking

- In the sun in moderation : often sun exposure can lead to improvements, but in case of excessive heat, sweating increases and consequently itching.

- Rinse the baby thoroughly after swimming in the sea or in the pool, avoid the baths if there are open lesions

- A careful personal hygiene : do short washings with warm water (32-34 degrees); add a liquid emollient to the bath water (which should not last more than 10 minutes); use natural products, without perfumes, without soap, with oily base; finish washing by spraying thermal water; dab to dry, do not rub

- Apply at least once a day an emollient cream on damp skin (based on Shea butter, or Jojoba oil or Borage oil )

- In case of severe itching, before the emollient apply thermal water (better if kept in the fridge) by dabbing with gauze

- Apply thermal water and emollient even before going to sleep, to reduce nocturnal itching

- Beware of essences and natural oils extracted from wheat germ or almonds in case there is allergy to the Grasses
