Origins and description of Qi gong

Millennial energetic discipline that contemplates movements from the inner center (dantien) coordinated with the breath. The cradle of Qi gong is China, but there are many variations of this energetic practice that allows you to accumulate qi (vital energy). An old Taoist metaphor explains the relationship between Qi gong and tai chi chuan: practicing the first without studying the second is like wanting to run a powerful car without putting gasoline. " Gong " is the ideogram associated with something that refers to the concept of work and sacrifice (often in the sense of making sacred, dedicating time and attention).

The qi gong is a work on qi, the energy within the body, the breath of life according to traditional Chinese medicine. Static and dynamic Qi gong exists, often included in wellness programs that include Taoist exercises and self-massages, practices to improve internal breathing and for energy enhancement .

Qi gong is the art of cultivating Qi, increasing it, strengthening it and refining it, through external and spiritual techniques: posture and movement, mental concentration and meditation. A typical Qi gong lesson

In the lesson you usually start with a meditation. The sequences are used to work on the three centers. The superior dantien, median and inferior ( dantian, a term which indicates to certain places in the body that are the seat of transformations and mutations). The first is placed around the frontal draft, between the eyebrows; the second is around the xiphoid, at the mouth of the stomach; the third rests in the lower part of the abdomen. Here rest the "three treasures" ( jing, qi, shen ), which live in the body.

There are different styles of Qi Gong with therapeutic, meditative and martial purposes.

The Master of Qi gong with mere presence should harmonize the class at first sight. If this is true, it is also true that the figure is the vehicle of something, but, being human, it must also work on the self, so that the students receive a lesson as "clean" as possible. For this reason those who decide to train have a long path of assimilation of the practice, which over the years gives an incredible fluidity.

Many tai chi chuan schools have a parallel path where the teacher can train as Qi gong trainer with a defined amount of hours. The individual practice and the life choices, as well as the lifestyle, of those who decide to take this path count very much and are not quantifiable.

Whether the teacher is driving a therapeutic or meditative or martial Qi gong, it takes years of practice (not by chance that the training schools provide 4 to 6) and a good knowledge of the principles of traditional Chinese medicine, which are not acquired in short time. Be wary of those who improvise Qi gong trainer and try to understand how much real contact the operator has with himself and if he also has direct learning experiences with Chinese teachers.
