Feldenkrais: what it is and what it is used for

The Feldenkrais is a method of body reorganization and self-education through movement that leads to the awareness of one's own motor patterns. Let's find out better.

What is the Feldenkrais method

By the name Feldenkrais, we mean a method of self-education through movement . Through the Feldenkrais, one becomes aware of his own movements and his own motor patterns, performing specific sequences of movements aimed at involving every part of our body, with particular attention paid to the perception and listening to ourselves .

The method was conceived in 1949 by Moshe Feldenkrais, after a personal knee injury. After years of experimentation on himself, Feldenkrais devotes himself to teaching his own method.

In Italy, the Feldenkrais method spread in the 1980s, thanks to the work of some teachers trained abroad. Thus was born, in 1987, the AIIMF, still today the main referent for the Feldenkrais method.

Benefits and contraindications of the Feldenkrais method

The purpose of the Feldenkrais method is to provide self-improvement tools, to improve everyone's quality of life.

The interaction between thought, self-image and the surrounding environment is improved, helping to improve the quality of daily actions, from the most common to the artistic ones, passing through those gestures that help the body such as breathing and muscle stretching.

Adapting to the peculiarities and characteristic limits of each subject, the Feldenkrais method has no particular contraindications.

For those who are useful

We can approach Feldenkrais in case of traumas or neurological disorders, from which we experience limited motor or perceptive capacity. Those who suffer from back pain, cervical pain and arthrosis find benefit in the method, as well as those who want to reduce physical and emotional stress .

By increasing self-awareness and concentration, the Feldenkrais is also practiced by athletes, actors, singers and dancers, who also benefit greatly from the point of dissolution of tensions given by the moment before and after the performance.

Who is and what the Feldenkrais method teacher does

The law in Italy and abroad

The Feldenkrais method can only be taught by qualified teachers . The training is four-year and includes a final exam. In Italy there are five schools for teaching the method, all of which can be traced back to AIIMF.

The diplomas obtained here have international validity and the training is recognized by EuroTAB (European Training Accreditation Board - European Commission for the accreditation of training courses. The NaTab and AusTab monitor North America and Australia.

Curiosity on the Feldenkrais method

The journey that led Moshe Feldenkrais to the creation of the discipline of the same name is long and detailed.

Working as a pioneer, he approaches the martial arts. He graduated in mechanical and electrical engineering in Paris and obtained a doctorate in Physics at the Sorbonne.

Become a black belt in Judo and found the first French Judo club. Commitments follow at the British Navy Ministry and the Israeli Army Defense Forces. Then a knee injury meant the beginning of the exploration culminating in the structuring of the method.

Dried fruit calendar

Not to be confused with dried fruit , we call some particularly nutritious seeds dry because of their contents of vitamins, minerals and oils, precious for our health and since ancient times cultivated and integrated in the human diet (and even earlier, in that of primates). Eaten naturally, reduced to flour, used in confectionery, processed into spreadable, toasted creams , dipped in honey, molasses or syrup, or drunk in a vegetable milk version, every particular dried fruit has an ideal season throughout the year ...
