Breast crevices: how long does it take to heal them?

Rhagades are minor lacerations of the skin tissue, which cause pain and are sometimes bleeding.

The most famous are the anal fissures, linked to disorders such as constipation or incorrect contraction of the sphincter, but there are not only those: they can in fact also originate from the cold or due to vitamin drop and appear on the hands or feet, or connected with the birth and feeding the newborn, then appear on the nipple .

Care must be taken, act immediately to prevent them and treat them properly, so as not to incur more serious annoyances or infections.

Natural remedies against fissures

In addition to specific creams sold in parapharmacies or pharmacies, there are usually lanolin-based cures to treat fissures, which can be used sparingly because they can hinder the baby's breastfeeding - even natural remedies and special care.

First of all, in the case of breast fissures, it is important to point out that the way of sucking is important to prevent them : the child must not attach himself to the breast incorrectly, that is taking only the nipple in the mouth, but all the areola.

One of the most effective natural remedies, which can be used anywhere on the body, is to spread a veil of sweet, organic and cold-pressed almond oil, which has a soothing, emollient and nourishing action .

Breast fissures healing time

The healing times depend on the attention and care that the mother pays to her body.

It is not necessary, in fact it is often counterproductive, to use soaps and protective discs for nipples or soft nipple cups, because they tend to dry out the skin or not make it transpire, as far as it follows.

Even topical products, local disinfectants or vegetable dyes are actually not recommended: it is better to use mother's milk itself, which contains antibodies and substances that stimulate the recovery and healing of the epidermis, while at the same time exerting an antibacterial action.

Therefore, to speed up healing of fissures, it is advisable to simply drop a few drops of milk at the end of the feed and gently massage the nipple, allowing it to absorb well and dry in the air.

In extremis, there is also the possibility of a surgical operation to alleviate the problem of fissures, but it is practiced above all at anal level and is called sphincterotomy.
