Flowing in change with meditation

" Panta rei ", everything flows, recites an ancient Greek aphorism. If " You cannot descend twice in the same river and you cannot touch twice a mortal substance in the same state ", the conclusion that follows is clear: the only certain thing is change .

If in the past the rhythm of change was so inexorable, but slow, today we are called to confront ourselves with a rapidly evolving reality, to continually learn new concepts, to chase the future that advances. If, on the one hand, this tumultuous flow can represent a compelling challenge, on the other it forces us to continually give up to ever changing, often destabilizing contexts .

Whether the change happens spontaneously, or whether it was desired, or, on the contrary, occurs despite our strenuous resistance, we are called to confront it from an early age and throughout the course of life.

How can we put ourselves in a balanced and firm manner in the face of changes, be they wanted or happened? How to be able to welcome them if sought after or induce them if necessary?

Meditation support during changes

There are many books of motivation or spiritual origin regarding the relationship between the person and change : the art of dancing between the facts and the tumult of life is far from obvious; sudden gyrations, thunderous tripping, unexpected scenarios make our circling often uncertain.

We would never allow ourselves to discuss such a vast and profound theme in these few lines, so we prefer to face the question from another point of view: if friends, family, partner are the dance companions, if life is our dance floor - sometimes smooth, sometimes bumpy, sometimes even, sometimes uphill - so we want to give you the right shoes to help you keep in touch with the earth, so you don't fall or hurt your feet.

Meditation can in fact represent the symbolic and mental footwear with which to move safely towards the inevitable progress of life. This is not because the practice "solves problems" or prevents us from making mistakes or running into wrong choices, but, at least, puts us in constant and radical contact with ourselves, with the deepest part that lies within .

If, as is now clear, "panta rei", everything flows, it becomes indispensable and vital to find fixed points, supports to cling to so as not to be swept away by the flood of the river; not to resist it, on the contrary, but to abandon oneself to the flow in an even more performing way.

The benefits of meditation to cope with change

  • Meditation is a practice that greatly helps inner cleansing : our hectic, overly full, spasmodically ruminant life generates a great deal of mental junk, of waste that should be eliminated, be it physical or psychic tensions. This process will help you to look at life with clear eyes, deeply interpreting the events (pleasant and otherwise). The changes, in particular, often cause confusions, fog, blind and sometimes irrational anxieties: meditation helps to restore balance and to stand before them in a solid, calm and balanced way.
  • When we talk about changes, often inevitably, we proceed towards an "evaluation" discourse: the change is "good" or "bad", "better" or "worse" than the current living. This mechanism is human, but often uselessly specious for the simple fact that a change "happens" and often does not depend on us and we can do nothing about it. Getting out of the good-evil duality and learning to accept what life offers are two mental attitudes that meditation constantly refines by increasing our degree of resilience to the inevitable swing of life. The art of "letting go" represents a truly precious arrow in the quiver of our personal resources that we should learn to cultivate.
  • Finally, it is known that meditation induces a state of well-being and relaxation in the person: changes, even when positive, do not fail to generate small or large concerns, anxieties, nervousness in us and in the people around us. Meditation helps cultivate a positive and serene state of mind, weakening - at least in part - the possible causes of anger or agitation and instilling in us an approach that is as confident as possible.

A soul firm in the journey of life

No practice can protect you from the landslides of life and falls that you will inevitably encounter during your dance.

However, it is possible to cultivate a serene and available spirit towards this unstoppable flow, a balanced mental attitude and firm in the face of those changes that dot all of existence.

In this, meditation truly represents a great, great ally.
