Nablus soap: the gold of Palestine

Origins and production processes of Nablus soap

Nablus, the city that gave its name and origins to this soap with a thousand qualities, is a very ancient village a few kilometers from Jerusalem. It is therefore found in the so-called occupied territories, a place full of millenary traditions, but plagued by very complicated geopolitical conditions.

The soap factories that produce Nablus soap in the traditional way are now counted on the fingertips of one hand; the purchase of this product therefore takes on a very special meaning, which goes far beyond the choice of a natural cosmetic.

The original Nablus soap is still produced with pure first pressing olive oil; the raw material is therefore very precious. Olive oil is cooked for several days at low temperatures; a mixture is obtained that is poured on tops that have always been used for this purpose, and marked with a red wool thread that has previously been passed into a vegetable powder. Wool is used to define the points where Nablus soap will be cut and stamped, strictly by hand. This is why traces of red color can be seen in the pieces of soap.
