Dévelo, association of agroecology
From the University of Milan, Faculty of Agriculture, directly in Haiti here is the road traveled by Dévelo, created to help the local inhabitants to develop ecological, clean and toxin-free agriculture .
Dévelo is born from a shared idea of researchers, students and professors of the Milanese faculty; it is a solidarity project that is actually an association, even better, an international cooperation laboratory, which works to transmit the skills necessary to give birth and carry forward a sustainable agriculture and share in its efforts and successes.
Specifically, on the LabDévelo website it is possible to follow the Haiti project entitled "Learning and doing in Haiti", participating in the association or simply following the group along the various paths, workshops, seminars - such as applied agroecology - or other proposed events.
A prize for sharing
After having obtained the special mention at the Bologna Award 2018 last October, Dévelo was awarded both for its cross-border help and for the work carried out in Italy: in fact, there were numerous laboratories conducted in schools, aimed at food safety, but also many projects on the supply chain and a vegetable garden set up in a Milanese high school.
Abroad, the group's aid and projects range from Haiti to Sengal, from Sierra Leone to the Democratic Republic of the Congo .
As President Pietro de Marinis tells Repubblica.it, Dévelo is a workshop of ideas created by students for students, " The goal was not to continually send aid and staff abroad, but to put Haitian farmers and students in condition of learning and then applying the new techniques of agriecology on their own. Investing because they have the knowledge and can do it on their own . "
The Haiti project was made possible thanks to funding from the Tavola Valdese and in collaboration with the University of Haiti for the management of agricultural waters.
Agroecology, what it is
Agroecology is considered by many to be the turning point for the sustainable development of the planet and its food production.
The road is not one-way: growth is only possible through the sharing of ideas and active comparison, the integration of projects and the formation of human capital.
Agroecology consists of the application of ecological principles to the production of food, fuel, fiber and drugs as well as the management of agrosystems.
According to FAO, these are the ten fundamental points of agroecology, well defined in "The guide to the transition to sustainable agricultural and food systems".
Nb: Dévelo was born in 2015 with Expo, the students acted as 'advisers' of a project in Senegal financed by the Municipality of Milan and FAO with contents related to agroecology.
