Obsidian: description
Mineral class: oxides.
Chemical formula: SiO2 + Fe2O3 + H2O + Al, C, Ca, K, Na, Fe
The obsidian is a volcanic glass that originates from the fast cooling of lava rich in silica : the thermal shock prevents the formation of crystals and produces an amorphous and rigid mass, rich in inclusions of various minerals.
Of black color and generally opaque, it can also take on a silver color ( silvered obsidian ) if in the original magma there are finely distributed gas bubbles or a colorful and bright appearance if they are water ( rainbow obsidian ). If gray feldspars are found in the rock formation process, then the so-called snow flake obsidian takes on a grayish -white stain .

Obsidian: mythology
Obsidian owes its current name to Obsius, the Roman citizen who, as Pliny tells us, calling it lapis obsianus or obsidianus, discovered it in African territory, in present-day Ethiopia. Obsidian belongs to the most ancient cult stones in the history of mankind: since the Stone Age it has been used for ritualistic purposes as a protective stone for driving away demons and for making weapons and sharp tools. The Mayan priests in Mexico used it as a mirror for divination, used to heal wounds and reduce pain.
Obsidian: effect on the body
Obsidian attenuates pain and stimulates peripheral circulation, therefore it is useful for people with chronically cold hands and feet (especially the snowflake variety). Dissolves energy blockages and eliminates toxins from the body.
Obsidian relieves inflammation caused by viruses and bacteria in the intestine and improves its functioning, favoring the reproduction of bacterial flora. Strengthens the spine and is useful in case of scoliosis.
Obsidian: effect on the psyche
Obsidian attracts physical and sexual energy into the body, connects us with the vibrations of the earth and awakens in us the strength necessary to live and realize ourselves. Since it works with the first chakra, it roots the higher spiritual energies in the lower chakras and is therefore useful to extremely emotional and unstable people, who have little contact with reality.
It is the stone of the warrior, who confronts everything with the calm and reflection of those who are not afraid of death. Gives inner clarity, balance and harmony .
Obsidian connects spirit and matter . It facilitates introspection, brings to the surface the most hidden emotions and thoughts and allows the conscious mind to penetrate the dark sides of the personality, directing the individual towards the path of transformation . It purifies the ego because it acts as a mirror, it destroys illusions and also reflects defects: it is light that dissolves the dark, the self meets its shadow to understand and illuminate it. It is a stone of self-knowledge .
Obsidian also helps to release repressed emotions, inducing people who have excessive self-control to unlock censorship and act in harmony with their feelings. Like all black stones, obsidian moves stagnant and negative energies and disperses them, allowing to overcome the fears and traumas that block the personal growth of the individual. It acts as a protective shield and seals the aura.
Obsidian: method of use
Obsidian can be discharged after use under running water. To obtain the best physical and spiritual effects it is advisable to bring the stone with you in close contact with the skin, in your pocket or on the painful areas, but never in the neck. Attention: it must be used with caution by those who have a strong emotional charge and better if accompanied by a rock crystal.
