River to River 2015, an Indian director for the 15th anniversary of the Festival

"We are delighted and honored to announce that the guest of honor of our 15th edition of River to River Florence Indian Film Festival will be director Deepa Mehta ", announces the smiling Selvaggia Velo, president for years of the Indian Film Festival.

Let's find out about this year's program.

River to River 2015, the Indian Film Festival turns 15 years old

The same will take place this year from 5 to 10 December, in Piazza Strozzi in Florence, housed in the inimitable setting of the Odeon cinema, for the 15th edition.

The director Deepa Mehta will be at the Festival to present her latest film, Beeba Boys, on Sunday 6 December at 8.30pm. For the occasion, in addition to the film mentioned above, the famous feature films Water will also be screened - nominated for the Oscars in 2007 as best foreign film - and Midnight's Children - taken from the well-known novel by Salman Rushdie.

It is worth mentioning other films such as the controversial Fire (a love affair between two women, projected on the River to River two years ago, in the presence of actress Shabana Azmi), Earth (India's proposal for the 2005 Oscars).

News, the collaboration with the Biennial of Kerala art

In addition to the classic guest star, every year different (we remember last year the well-known Irrfan Khan ), among the novelties of this year there will be the Indian Video Art section, dedicated to video art precisely, in collaboration with the prestigious Biennale d ' Art of Kochi-Muziris, well - known contemporary art exhibition in the southern Indian city of Kerala, home of Ayurveda.

Indian Video Art will propose some works of the most important Indian video artists protagonists of the international scene, selected by the curators of the Indian Biennale.

To promote the crowfounding of the Festival, the video (look at the bottom of the article) made by the students of the European Institute of Design (IED) in Florence, the new partner of the festival, was also very exciting. It was shot by the students of the Master in Graphic Design, who were inspired by Indian culture, using traditional elements, such as elephants and divinities, mixing them, in an ironic way, with the appearance and the voice of Selvaggia Velo, director of the festival.

The only Italian festival entirely dedicated to Indian cinematography, the River to River Florence Indian Film Festival accompanies the public to discover the culture of a country full of charm and contradictions, for six days of screenings - in European and Italian premieres - exhibitions, meetings with directors and actors and moments of study.

There will also be the Doc India section, which will offer an unprecedented India through the watchful eye of Indian and international documentarians, feature films between independent and Bollywood cinema and short films. The public will then decide on the best film, voting it among the various sections of the festival, which will win the River to River Doombo Audience Award.

In the program of the 15th edition there will also be a retrospective dedicated to a personality of Indian cinema, which will see a star of international fame as host of the Festival.

Milanese and Bolognese Festival

For the third consecutive year the River to River will then move to the Spazio Oberdan in Milan (Viale Vittorio Veneto 2) with the "best of" Florentine edition (February 2016).

Among the novelties of this year, the festival inaugurates a new collaboration with the Cineteca Foundation of Bologna : in 2016 the winning films of the 15th edition will be screened within the programming of the Cineteca di Bologna . The festival can be followed on the Facebook page, on Twitter and Instagram @ river2riverfiff with the hashtag # R2RFIFF. For more information, visit www.rivertoriver.it
