What is posturology

Clinical posturology is the medical science that studies the functioning of the Postural System and analyzes the relationship between the imbalance of the Postural System and the pathologies of the musculoskeletal system. Becoming a posturologist means treating all the pathologies resulting from the compensations that our body puts in place following the imbalances in the Postural System: muscle contractures, back pain, headache, joint problems, arthrosis, scoliosis, herniated discs and more. The posturological approach is important because, since birth, our brain stores the errors of the Postural System as references of normality, so they cannot correct themselves. The possibility of modifying them is a crucial tool for both prevention and therapy .

In the field of alternative medicine, posturology is characterized by the relationships between body posture and certain pain pathologies that, according to the supporters of this practice, would derive from a bad postural structure. According to these posturologists, various receptors in the body, if unbalanced, could alter the posture of the individual causing incorrect body positions in the three axes of space which, if they are also asymptomatic at first, could cause painful pathologies that can also be referred to other body systems far from the dysfunctional district. The most important receptors, according to these theories, would be: the eye, the ear, the foot and the skin

Posturologist profession

To become a posturologist means to start working through an instrumental investigation consisting in the computerized analysis of the center of gravity, of muscle tone, of postural oscillations and of the structure of the spine in the three dimensions of space. In the clinical section the postural attitude, the muscle tone, the support of the foot, the convergence of the eyes, the parallelism of the visual axes, the mandibular occlusion and everything that can interfere with the optimal body schema for each individual is studied.

On the basis of the diagnosis a re - education and individualized therapy program is then set up. The one-to-one relationship between the posturologist and the other professional figures opens up to the concept of interdisciplinarity and therefore to team work . In fact, the postural patient is not "anyone's" a priori, and it is only after a careful postural analysis that it is understood by whom it is more appropriate to address the person for the definitive treatment.

Become a posturologist

The posturologist is a specialist who has faced a training course that has made him aware of what are the postural problems and how to deal with them, respecting the subject and the individual. In order to be able to define posturologists it is necessary to have attended a University Master in posturology.

Who can become a posturologist? All those who, more or less directly in their profession, deal with the Posture of Man: graduates in health rehabilitation professions, physical education, optometrists, dentists and orthodontists, psychologists, orthopedists and physiatrists, general practitioners and so on. It is good to point out, however, that the Master's degree in posturology does not change the basic skills of the individual specialist: those that change with the training path are awareness and, consequently, changes the way of approaching the problem.

The Italian Study and Research Association in Posturology is born from the need to propagate the professionalism, preparation and knowledge of those who deal with posturology, in order to guarantee a better operation in our daily work, a fundamental prerogative to restore psycho-physical well-being of the patient.
