The little ones are more exposed to sunburn than adults; their skin is thinner and the production of melanin, the natural protector we are equipped with, is not yet at its maximum capacity. A good sunscreen isn't everything, but it can be an ally for protecting children's skin . But you have to choose the right one and use it well.

  • Before using a new product, test its tolerance on a small area of ​​the child's skin.
  • The most expensive cream is not always the best; to choose the right product read the INCI carefully. There are, for example, sunscreens that give allergies more easily: benzophenone-3 and methylbenzylidencamphor ; both these filters are also accused of being able to generate hormonal problems; for security it would therefore be better to avoid them.
  • Sunscreens should not be used in children under the age of 6 months . Therefore, the little ones should not be exposed to the sun. They have to stay in the shade, covered with light clothes. The head should always be protected with a scarf, bandana or cotton hats.
  • Check that the cream contains both Uva and Uvb filters.
  • Sunscreen is suitable for children's skin if it has a high protection factor, ideally 50+.
  • The cream should not only be used by the sea or by the pool. The uncovered parts of children's skin (especially the face) must be protected every time you are outdoors; to do sport, to play or even for a simple walk.
  • Apply the sunscreen before exposure to the sun and about every two hours, as well as after the bath, of course.
  • Apply the cream even when the skin is already tanned .

    Sun cream, as we said, is not everything. If certain rules are not observed, the protection of children's skin is ineffective and there is no cream to keep.

    Do not expose children to the sun during the hottest hours, ie between 11 and 15

    • Always have children wear sunglasses and a hat .
    • The best protection for children's skin is the fabric, so it's a good idea to keep the little ones under the umbrella and not leave them for too long with just the costume; one of the best allies against sunburn is the T-shirt. Natural fabrics (cotton, linen) protect better than synthetic ones, but they must be dry, otherwise they cannot retain UV rays.
    • The protection of children's skin cannot be separated from adequate nutrition ; yes therefore to fresh fruit and seasonal vegetables ; no to fats.
    • Hydration is very important: invite children to drink a lot of water above all; fruit juices are also fine, as long as they are of good quality, that is with a high fruit content (preferably from organic farming) and no added sugar.
    • Set a good example for children, while also protecting their own skin. Good habits are acquired from an early age; the child will more readily accept the rules for protection from the sun, if the parents also follow them.
