The reflex zones of the foot: the liver

The liver is the largest internal organ. It is located in the abdominal cavity, predominantly on the right, overlooking the stomach and bordering on the heart.

Its functions are varied: it produces bile, which contributes to digestion, emulsifying fats and breaking down large cells, allowing enzymes to increase the surface of action. It also produces glycogen and glucose, stores glucose and maintains balance in the blood.

Another function of the liver is to organize the distribution of nutrients : the blood coming from the digestive tract enters the liver via the portal vein and the liver is to capture and transform nutrients and distribute them to the various organs.

The liver in the reflex area of the foot

The liver is a very large organ that lies below the diaphragm, in the abdominal cavity, predominantly on the right.

On the foot is reflected on the plant in the soft parts, being a soft organ, responding to the reflexology law of similarity (the organs are reflected on the soft part of the foot).

The liver area, in plantar reflexology, is found on the plant in the center of the foot, under the pads of the metatarsals. It is on the right foot, but a part of the liver area is also on the left foot.

The epicenter of the liver is divided, according to the holistic podalic reflexology, into a physical epicenter and an energetic epicenter : the physical epicenter of the liver in reflexology is found on the sole plant of the right foot, in a thin horizontal zone that includes the part below the articulation between the metatarsal and phalanges of the third and fourth fingers; the energetic epicenter is always on the sole of the right foot and is placed on the joint between the phalanx and the metatarsus of the fourth finger only.

This epicenter is located above the physical epicenter, and to place it on the foot it is customary to gently bend the fourth finger towards the back: in this way the metatarsal phalangeal joint is highlighted.

Analogical interpretation of the Liver

The liver is predominantly on the right: the right side is the practical, material part; the liver thus represents an organ that relates to the materiality of life, with doing . It is a very practical organ, linked to transformation, movement and heat. In traditional Chinese medicine the liver is linked to the energy of spring, adolescence, and muscle strength.

Analogously, and for all the functions it performs and coordinates, it has to do with the ability to be a good leader : its possibilities to use, discard, transform and store the nutrients it receives with the blood from the digestive system connects to making decisions and managing the experiences of one's life, putting in place all the tools necessary to achieve the intended purpose.

It manages personal power and stores energy, deciding how to spend it and for what purposes. This function of the liver refers analogically to the ability to use one's energies without wasting them.

The liver has the function of detoxifying the blood and this refers to the ability to evaluate and to distinguish, and to let go. Like the whole digestive system, therefore, the liver also plays the role of making the experience its own and using it for the life and utility of the whole system.

The liver gives indications on the ability to manage the material part: the relationship with money and with things.

Physical treatment of liver reflex points

The liver, by its very nature, expresses a strong and reactive energy. Treating the liver area provides indications on the "too much": the liver gets sick when what we put into our body is in quantities greater than necessary or too coarse.

Foods that are too fat and heavy, alcoholic and medicinal, overload the work of the liver. The area, like any other area, can appear empty, soft and inert to palpation, or hard, tense, swollen: this gives indications on the physiological conditions of the functions of the liver, to speak of an imbalance or even just a simple difficulty to perform their own functions.

The epicenters give instead indications on the analogical aspect of the expressed energy of the liver: the relationship with the aggressiveness, first of all, strong energy, and then the problems with the power, whether it is acted or immediately.
