When we talk about bacterial vaginosis we talk about vaginal infection, which can be caused by various factors:
> Alteration of the vaginal bacterial flora generally rich in lactobacilli and pH modification which should be slightly acid to keep the environment protected from attack by bacteria.
> presence of pathogenic bacteria such as Gardnerella Vaginalis, the main cause of vaginosis and which prefers alkaline environments.
> unprotected and promiscuous sexual intercourse endangers vaginal health. Sperm can inhibit the probiotic intake of lactobacilli and thus weaken the bacterial flora.
> pharmacological treatments based on antibiotics impoverish intestinal and vaginal bacterial flora.
> incorrect intimate hygiene, with excessively aggressive detergents, which attack the natural protection of both internal and external parts.
Symptoms of bacterial vaginosis
Symptoms are often confused with other diseases that affect the vaginal system. It is therefore appropriate to ask for the diagnosis of the gynecologist and not to rely on a sort of self-reading that could lead to the use of incorrect counter remedies, which do not solve the problem, but may even trigger ever more aggressive recurrences.
The main symptoms of bacterial vaginosis are :
> Whitish vaginal discharge, often abundant and gelatinous
> Bad vaginal odor caused by the catabolism of amino acids such as cadaverine and putrescine
> Possible itching, although they are generally attributable above all to an infection of a fungal nature
Remedies against Bacterial Vaginosis
It is essential to rely on your gynecologist for an accurate diagnosis. Bacterial vaginosis generally requires the use of specific antibiotics .
There is a whole series of remedies to be taken both by mouth and to be applied locally and if the partner also has to undergo the same treatment.
We can prevent the onset of an environment that can accept pathogenic bacteria with proper intimate hygiene, using non-aggressive products that maintain the right level of pH acidity.
We do not use irrigations for internal cleansing because they impoverish the vaginal flora and can become conductors of pathogens towards the uterus.
Underwear must be cotton or natural fibers, we avoid synthetic briefs that can cause irritation and itching.
We encourage the cyclic use of probiotics to increase the proportion of good bacteria to enrich the intestinal and vaginal bacterial flora.
The use of condoms protects not only from sexually transmitted diseases but also from alteration of vaginal pH from acid to basic due to sperm.
