Non-eco-friendly make-up products can be formulated with ingredients that can cause problems to our skin over time. Foundation, concealers, powders and primers can in fact contain paraffins, silicones, nickel, parabens . It seems that silicones and paraffins, creating a barrier on the skin, limit the activity of the epidermis causing a premature aging. Prolonged use of non-eco-friendly make-up products can also lead to the formation of pimples and blackheads and cause pores to dilate: all signs that the skin needs to breathe and eliminate toxins.

Other ingredients, such as nickel and parabens, but also synthetic perfumes and additives, can give sensitization to the skin, causing irritation, dryness or allergies.

Foundations, concealers and natural powders do not contain silicones, paraffins or skin irritants: let's see how eco-bio face makeup is formulated.

Foundation and mineral concealers

Foundation and mineral concealers are mineral tricks composed exclusively of mixtures of natural pigments. Mineral tricks are obtained by spraying pigments derived from stones or earth. With this type of ingredients, not only foundation and concealers can be formulated, but also powders, blushes and eye shadows, which come in powder form and contain oxides, micas, colored clays, silica. Mineral makeup is applied dry, with the help of soft brushes, or it can be applied by adding it to small amounts of cream or water.

Inside the foundation and the mineral correctors there are therefore no humectants, emulsifiers, silicones, preservatives and perfumes and the powders used do not react with each other or with the skin, which makes them particularly suitable for sensitive or problem skin. Furthermore, mineral powders adhere to the skin without occluding it and absorb excess sebum and are therefore suitable for oily and mixed skin, impure or prone to acne.

Liquid and compact foundations

Liquid natural foundations can be formulated by adding mineral lipid ingredients to the mineral pigments with humectant function, water, emulsifiers and cosmetic fragrances. If they are formulated with water they will also contain one or more preservatives.

The compact foundations do not contain water and to them are added waxes of vegetable or animal origin (beeswax) to make them more solid. Both liquid and compact foundations can also contain cosmetic active ingredients that make them more suitable for different types of skin.

Compared to mineral foundations, liquid and compact foundations are easier to apply and can be more opaque.

Liquid foundations are indicated for dry skin and for mature skin with wrinkles. Compact foundations are not recommended for oily and impure skins or those prone to acne. Sensitive and particularly reactive skins can present problems with the use of liquid or compact foundations if they contain additives, preservatives or fragrances that are not well tolerated.

Natural stick correctors

The concealers serve to hide imperfections and discolorations of the skin, making the color uniform. In shades of yellow they are useful to minimize dark circles, while in shades of green they help to hide redness, pimples and boils .

Natural stick concealers contain mineral pigments, waxes, humectants and can sometimes contain fragrances. They can also contain specific active ingredients for the eye area or to soothe inflammation due to the appearance of pimples.

Natural powders and blushes for the face

The powders can be white or colored and are used by spreading them all over the face after applying the foundation; they are used to fix the foundation and harmonize the color.

Blushes are instead applied to cheekbones and cheeks, are colored and serve to define and illuminate certain parts of the face. Both natural powders and blushes contain mineral pigments sometimes added with white or colored clay, rice or corn starch, talc, silica. They can also contain small percentages of vegetable oils and butters, powdered plant extracts, antioxidant substances and cosmetic fragrances.

Natural primers

The primer is a product that is applied to the face after the moisturizer and before the foundation or eye shadow. The purpose of the primer is to make the foundation adhere better, increasing the yield and duration of the make-up. Natural primers are formulated without silicones, parabens and petrolatums: they contain water, vegetable oils and butters and silica, rice starch and mineral oxides with sebum-absorbing and opacifying function.
