Dog teeth are too often neglected, but tooth health is very important for our dog. Not only because teeth and mouth are the door to food, but also because for the dog the mouth is the sense organ that replaces what for us is touch. Let's find out how to intervene in case of tartar with natural remedies.
What is tartar
When the plaque hardens on the teeth, tartar is formed . The edge of the gums may also be affected by this phenomenon which causes tissue irritation and over time can lead to more serious problems such as tooth decay .
Dog tartar: cures and natural remedies
Some dogs have an abnormal tendency to produce tartar . It sometimes completely encompasses the teeth like a real cement capsule under which permanent inflammation and gingival infection are created which not only bring pain to the mouth and tooth fall but weaken the body.
Germs can get into the blood and cause endocarditis and kidney infections .
To combat tartar it is important to take care of nutrition, which should be natural and rich in calcium and vitamin C.
In order for the dog to keep a healthy mouth it is important that the teeth are used properly, because chewing helps improve blood circulation.
Therefore it is important to give the dog also chopped food, which should be torn and chewed, and not just soft pâté or morsels. There are natural remedies that can be given to the dog for the health of teeth and gums:
- Calendula : 30 drops diluted in half a glass of water sprayed on the gums with a syringe without needle. Calendula has anti-inflammatory properties that help before and after cleaning surgery from tartar.
- Propolis : on the mucous membrane of the mouth it has an antiseptic and repairing effect, but it burns a lot. Propolis is diluted a lot with water and used on inflamed but not injured mucosa.
In case of reddened gums a mouthwash prepared with the following Bach flowers is very useful:
- Vervain for inflammation,
- Elm and Holly for the pain,
- Crab Apple for infection,
- Agrimony for tooth discomfort .
Bach flowers should be diluted in the proportion of 1 drop of each every 10 ml of water and sprayed into the oral cavity 5 or 6 times a day. They will be swallowed by the dog.
Natural tips
A useful practice involves the use of a toothbrush, at least once a day. Unfortunately, it is not easy to get the dog used to having its teeth brushed, so it is good to start gradually, starting first with massaging teeth and gums with fingers wrapped in sterile gauze, to then move on to the toothbrush.
There are also toothpastes or pastes specially designed for cleaning dogs' teeth . Under no circumstances should human toothpaste be used, as if the dog ingests it it can cause serious stomach problems.
