1-7 October 2015: World Vegetarian Week begins



The 1st World Vegetarian Week opens on October 1st.

Environmentalists, animalists, vegetarians and vegans from all over the world come together to support an information campaign that aims to explain to the public that a diet rich in meat causes problems not only for health, but that is also harmful to the well-being of the planet, environment, society and animals all included.

Every city and country in the world proposes various cultural initiatives to raise awareness and promote a vegetarian choice in the area, in order to educate to a healthier, ethical and sustainable lifestyle . During the week, World Animal Day will also intersect on October 4th ; in the same week the World Week for the abolition of meat (Smac) was also associated.

Therefore, a week in which, those who are not vegetarian or vegan, have the opportunity to discover and experience for themselves what it means to eliminate meat, how it feels and what alternatives are possible.

Following this is what is organized in this regard in the various cities, to discover that a conscious and serene choice like the vegetarian one cannot be called "sacrifice".

The 2015 veg initiatives

Among the initiatives promoted in the various cities, we did not find much on the internet, but here are some suggestions:

  • Gorizia . Here an inaugural buffet is organized by the VegAnima Gorizia association, but there are also veg-dinners with author's songs, children's games, the blessing of animals and finally the donation of veg books.
  • Milan Here is Expo on September 15 last that was the day of Vegetarian Sharing, during which the well-known star chef Pietro Leeman recently exhibited his idea at Expo, or that "problems are solved by eating. Vegetarian", look in bottom of the article the example video.
  • Palermo. It is not difficult for Sicily to be a vegetarian. Already at the time of the Las Vegans' exit, the eclectic Paola Maugeri told it. Here there are meetings and events every day, an exceptional organization and interesting initiatives: ranging from issues concerning health, world hunger, projections and debates on how the veg choice is also an ecological choice.     My first veg meal

    Here is that the imagination indulges itself. Whether vegetarian diet or vegan diet, to start with replenish the galley: seasonal fruits and vegetables, various seeds (sesame, flax, chia for example) to enrich your dishes, nuts (walnuts, hazelnuts, peanuts, almonds, Brazilian nuts ), various flours (chickpeas, spelled, wholegrain, sesame, rice flour or semolina), and cereals or vegetables a little different for your salads (quinoa, millet, amaranth, couscous, red rice or brown rice), basmati rice, barley); let us not forget legumes, tofu and seitan for the protein base.     You could then have fun preparing an excellent veg dinner based on seasonal products.

    For example, a first course of risotto with pumpkin and porcini mushrooms, a pan of chard, potatoes and red onions with flaxseed as a side dish and of sempilce seitan in a pan with sage, sesame and rosemary. Nothing could be simpler or more natural for Italian cuisine.

    And to protect you from the arrival of the first cold, the fruit becomes a concentrate of vitamins when harvested in excellent natural juices . Go ahead with grapes of all colors, particularly nourishing and beneficial, apples, grapefruits, pears, lemons combined with carrots and cucumbers: natural aperitifs that will amaze you and give wellbeing to the intestine, thoroughly purifying you.
