Shiatsu: a remedy for cellulite?

Cellulite in a nutshell

The specific name is panniculopatia edematofibrosclerotica, which paradoxically is much more explanatory than the common term "cellulite", even a little misleading since the suffix would suggest inflammation such as arthritis, dermatitis, gastritis and in Chinese medicine we know well that when we are faced with a "... ite", there is generally a fire to quell.

In this case, however, we are in a completely different context. Cellulite is a morphological alteration of the panniculus adiposus , in other words the fat cells change in shape and consistency, they dilate, they break with invasion of the intracellular spaces of lipid fluid. This phenomenon is attributable to a stagnation of the microcirculation at the level of the hypodermis.

There are various stages of degeneration from a lighter form called edematous, where only a touch of fluid is noticed at the touch, while the fibrous one is intermediate, characterized by small nodules due to the penetration of the liquids in the tissues and to the consequent distancing of the fat cells which they degenerate, up to the most rooted form of sclerotic cellulite, where the nodules take on larger dimensions, the tissues harden, the area is cold and painful to the touch.

The energetic reading of cellulite

From the above it is clear that from an energetic point of view we are in a lunar, feminine, yin, stagnation, blocking context, we tend to be in the Water movement, so slowed down that on one hand it does not nourish the child element, Wood, the bile does not emulsify fats, the Liver does not energize the energy to feed the basal metabolism and on the other it dominates the nephew element, the Fire, the circulation is not fluid, the Triple Heater is not free to express its energy yang, in opening the passages of liquids and draining them, the Master of the Heart does not spread his light, the Xue, the Blood, the vehicle of communication with all the organs.

This can be a reading key with which to begin a path to rebalance the relationships between the elements and an energy restoration of the relative meridians.

Shiatsu for stagnation

After some preparatory exercises of Do-In or stretching to mobilize the body (in particular the torsions are fundamental, since they have the "mechanicalness" of squeezing the tissues, of stimulating the organs, of awakening and lengthening the muscles), I would start a practice of mobilization of the joints, ankles, wrists, shoulders to begin to unblock the areas of lymphatic blockage.

On the basis of the energy analysis model that we have noted previously, we can decide to start working on the water movement meridians or on all the Yin meridians of the movements involved in the imbalance, water, wood and fire, to unblock the excess and facilitate the subsequent stimulation of the Yang meridians.

We can first approach the kidney meridian and identify the tsubos (specific points that can be painful to the touch): R1 on the sole of the foot at a little less than 1/3 of the distance between the tip of the middle finger and the heel and in the middle of the part front of the foot; R3 on the inside of the ankle at half the distance between the Achilles tendon and the tip of the ankle (posterior to the malleolus).

Stimulate these two points deeply, with a constant pressure for 7/10 seconds. We can then decide to simultaneously stimulate the R1 point and the R27 point (the two extremes of the meridian) to communicate with the whole energy channel and release it.

We then move on to the child movement, that of Wood, and stimulate the tsubo points of the Yin di Fegato meridian: F3 about 4 cm in the tendon space between the big toe and the melluce, F4 halfway between the anterior edge of the ankle and the tendons on the top of the foot, F11 at 5 cm below the fold between the thigh and the torso, F13 anteriorly below the last costal arch and F14 between the sixth and seventh rib, directly below the nipple.

Subsequently we simultaneously urge the two extremes of the meridian, F1 and F14 to communicate with the whole energy channel. Moving on to the Fire movement we stimulate the Master of the Heart in the tsubo points MC 6, 5cm above the fold of the wrist between the two tendons of the wrist, MC 8 on the palm of the hand, at the point where the bent middle finger touches the last fold of the palm.

Finally, we can stimulate the two extremes of the MC 1 and MC 9 meridian to stimulate the entire energy channel. After the treatment of the yin meridians involved in the stasis, we proceed to the stimulation of the Yang meridians .

In the Water movement we work on the whole meridian of Vescica . The Yang meridians start from the top down, but in this treatment we must move the stasis and the blocks we will work towards the lymphatic ducts with manipulations and movements that awaken the flows from the periphery to the center, from bottom to top.

In the Wood movement we are going to stimulate the meridian of Vescicola Biliare, everything from the fourth toe VB44 to the temple VB1. In the Fire movement we work on the Triple Heater from the ring finger TR1 to the TR 23 temple zone always under stress.

Through this long practice we have stimulated the energy, the Qi, the Xue, the blood through which the Qi is transported, the energy of the Kidneys and Bladder to move liquids, drain them and dispose of them, unblocking the functionalities of the Wood and Fire.
