Puffy eyes: the most common causes
The swollen eyes are characterized by a stagnation of liquids to the eyelids.
The reasons may be various, the most common are:
> trauma : when the eye or the part around it is subjected to a trauma or a contusion, an edema can form and sometimes even a hematoma, with alteration of the visual field and the color of the skin around the eye;
> stye and / or chalazion: the stye and chalazion affect the sebaceous glands present on the eyelids; chalazion presents itself as a cyst, and can be felt by swelling, while the stye is usually accompanied by bacterial inflammation, therefore pain and swelling of the affected eye;
> allergies : some allergic manifestations that accompany the upper respiratory tract, such as pollen and dust allergies, cause excessive and unnatural tearing and, consequently, can manifest themselves through swelling both to the upper eyelid and to the lower eyelid;
> conjunctivitis and blepharitis : conjunctivitis and blepharitis are two inflammations of viral or bacterial origin that affect the conjunctiva, that is the mucosa that covers the eye and the inner part of the eyelids, and the eyelid margin, and both can bring the eyes to swell;
> sinusitis and colds : in the case of sinusitis, especially if chronic, swelling can occur with watery eyes;
> other reasons : prolonged crying, contact with irritating substances, exposure to wind and too cold temperatures, fever, headache, lack or excess of sleep, unbalanced diet with excessive salt intake, intake of some drugs.
