A stomach ache is often caused by too much air being ingested and creates an annoying aerophagia. Aerofagia may depend on several causes, such as:
- excessive swallowing of air, when eating in a hurry or standing or nervously;
- alteration of bacterial flora;
- constipation, when faeces remain in the colon, causing fermentation gases;
- incorrect nutrition: some carbohydrates are the main culprits, while proteins and fats produce little gas.
