Before talking about natural remedies against psoriasis, it is good to understand the disorder we are talking about.
Psoriasis: what is it?
Psoriasis is an inflammatory disease, most often itchy, affecting the skin. The symptomatology is generally chronic and often relapses and affects about 3% of the world population.
Psoriasis occurs with spots, papules and erythomatous plaques, at first rosy, which then become silvery and irregularly shaped and diffused, and which occur mainly in the elbows, knees, scalp, lumbar region and even on the back of the hands and on the nails .
Psoriasis is not contagious and is not completely transmitted as a hereditary trait, however there are families that show a certain predisposition, or "familiarity" with this disorder, sometimes made even more serious by individual, psychological and psychosomatic causes, traumas, disorders emotional or even hormonal changes.
Unnatural remedies against psoriasis
As the ADIPSO, the Psoriasis Defense Association, explains, the disorder can be kept under control both through classic drugs and through components that fall within the branch of alternative medicines and natural remedies and treatments. The therapies can in fact be of different types: topical, systemic, phototherapeutic, biological and natural.
Since psoriasis affects the skin, almost all topical care treatments are used, ie ointments containing corticosthyroid drugs and ointments based on vitamin D are used.
Systemic therapies are instead indicated for the more serious forms, the treatments are more or less toxic and invasive, since they are taken internally, and can cause side effects.
A valid aid is given by phototherapy, ultraviolet radiation or laser, able to improve the appearance of the lesions. A class of drugs of last conception is that of biological drugs, or compounds that are monoclonal antibodies, cytokines, tissue growth factors and fusion proteins.

Natural remedies against psoriasis
There are many remedies against psoriasis on the market, but only a few can really be considered natural remedies. Among these natural remedies against psoriasis it is certainly included in the list active ingredients that are taken in the form of "natural" food to be consumed frequently, but also herbal teas, infusions, tablets or poultices. Here are some of them:
- Soya, which contains unsaturated fatty acids, is an excellent natural protection for all the body's lining structures such as cell membranes and skin lining. Unsaturated fats prevent the early death of cells and promote the healing of real dermatoses such as psoriasis, eczema, boils.
- The artichoke, known for its purifying effects on the kidneys and liver, promotes the elimination of toxins and therefore has positive reflexes in many skin diseases, such as hives, eczema, and psoriasis in fact.
- Dunlianella salina, a red algae high in alginic acid and beta-carotene, substances that are also found in tomatoes and that have a high antioxidant and healing power for degenerative and dermatological diseases, such as atopic dermatitis and psoriasis.
- The fumaria, also known as "hands of Jesus", a common plant in the Italian countryside, traditionally used for its purifying properties for the liver and skin; today the main substances are extracted to form the basis for chemical compounds for medicines.
- Pansy or viola tricolor has long been used in the popular tradition for its purifying properties, for skin affected by acne, eczema, psoriasis and dermatitis of various origins.
- Centella asiatica, called tiger herb, was known and used in the past for its eudermic properties and dermatological diseases such as psoriasis.
Also included in natural remedies against psoriasis, there are also particular external treatments that can be practiced cyclically, such as hydrothermal treatment or balneotherapy. The types of water most commonly used in psoriasis are the calcium-magnesium bicarbonate and the sulphurous ones. A very interesting therapeutic proposal is, for example, the thermal treatment on the Dead Sea .
The benefits are remarkable, especially if combined with phototherapy: it is a treatment with keratolytic and antiseptic, decongestant and antiseborroic properties, as well as anti-itching.
