Dizziness and labyrinthitis: exercises to do at home

Right on our head there is a complex and wonderful work of engineering which is the ear .

Let's see together how labyrinthitis can compromise its functioning, how it affects the overall system and what exercises can be done at home to combat vertigo .

Labyrinthitis: dizziness and fear

It is often underestimated how important the mechanisms inside the ear are . The sound waves enter mechanically in our auditory complex, reach the eardrum, hammer, anvil and stirrup, from the oval window they pass to the organ of Corti and there the mechanical impulse turns into electric.

The vestibular apparatus is that which is affected in the case of labyrinthitis and what is compromised is the communication system of the impulse that reaches the brain. the first alteration occurs at the ocular level, in fact in the case of labyrinthitis there is a rapid and unwanted movement of the eye (the so-called nystagmus ), because the rotatory movements are not detected precisely by the brain .

This distorted information regarding balance is responsible for vertigo which can also be serious. To cause the disorder can be a virus but also a bacterial infection and it is the same bacteria responsible for meningitis and otitis.

Vertigo and fear often walk together, especially for those who fear losing control and this feeling of fear can be combined with nausea, dizziness, sweating and general sickness.

Exercises to combat vertigo

The vertiginous rotatory syndrome associated with labyrinthitis must be preceded by a careful diagnosis that concerns all the receptors that we have in our body and that are involved in the cases of labyrinthitis; visits to the ear, sight and neurological examinations will therefore be carried out.

Some exercises can help relieve symptoms effectively. Here are some.

Vertigo and multiple sclerosis: is there a link?

Proprioception and stability ball

First of all, the internal balance of the body must be reassessed and this often requires continuous proprioceptive training over time.

Not small exercises, no random and untidy sequences but a real work program with stability balls, tools and floor work with a mat.

Physiotherapy re-education of Semont and Brandt Daroff

There is a real physiotherapy re-education called re-education according to Semont and Brandt Daroff, useful for eliminating otoliths detached from the liquids of the labyrinth and is done first in the presence of the doctor or physiotherapist: it is called cananolithiasis and involves the descent on one side rather than another, depending on the side affected by the sensation.

After sitting across the bed, one quickly sets on his left side to wait for the vertigo to end. If dizziness does not occur, you remain in the position for 30 seconds. Then return to the sitting position and keep it for 30 seconds or until the vertigo is exhausted.

It passes with a certain speed on the right side and if even here there is no vertigo the position is maintained. The exercises should be repeated every 3 hours and interrupted if the vertigo does not appear over 2 days.

Visualization and breathing together

Often the generalized state of anxiety that is generated by vertigo is neglected; to mitigate these sensations it is necessary to work with a certain constancy in the direction of "seeing with the inner eyes".

The exercise is a real practice, not too complex, but which requires concentration and the right space for execution: sit trying to stay with the straight column and the pelvis in axis; do not rush and do not expect immediate results, it is above all a way to get back in touch with yourself.

Try to place both hands at the height of the belly and to lift only that area with the breath, then do the same at chest level, bringing the hands up. Alternate with the rhythm you want and feel you want to adopt; you can bring your face to the right and left favoring movement with breathing.

This movement calms the mind and is effective if you avoid turning and turning your head too quickly. In fact, even just the breathing exercise helps. You can also associate a waveform that arrives and retracts or expansions of colors under the chest and inside the belly that widen up to the head. Alternatively, a beam of light that radiates from the cervix to the head and goes down.

Finally, you can practice pranayama exercises at home classic in combination with asanas that allow the whole system to take root on the ground.
