The auricular

Origins of auriculotherapy

Auriculotherapy is a science born many centuries ago. The Egyptians already knew about the use of the auricle for therapeutic purposes. Auriculotherapy is developed in France in 1956 by a Lyon based physician, Paul Nogier, who observed that several of his patients from Corsica had cauterizations at the level of the auricle. From the clinical history of these patients it emerged that those cauterizations were made in Corsica by skilled farriers to treat sciatica pains .

Nogier, intrigued by this finding, investigated in the history of medicine if anyone had ever used the ear for therapeutic purposes. In fact he found innumerable testimonies of practices connected to auricular therapy from Hippocrates to the present day, it was then that he set to work to experiment the various points of the ear and discovered that it contains the representations of the innervations of the various organs and systems.

China itself began studies on auriculotherapy after Nogier's discoveries. In recent years, researchers' interest in this discipline has grown more and more: numerous scientific papers on auriculotherapy have been produced that have allowed us to study the neurobiological bases and to validate new applications. It is in 1995 that in Italy the National Federation of Medical Orders inserts the item "Auriculotherapy" in the FNOOM tariff, making it the official medical therapy that can be practiced alone " medical manu ".

What does auriculotherapy cure?

The auriculotherapy is at the service of different pathologies and dysfunctions of the organism. Auriculotherapy can be suitable for treating physical or psychosomatic symptoms such as allergies, anxiety, diet-related disorders (obesity and dysfunctions of eating behavior seem to represent the main fields of intervention for which there are important clinical evidences and numerous and interesting research lines).

Furthermore, auricular therapy lends itself to alleviating various types of pain, such as skeletal muscle diseases, internal organ diseases, and thanks to its sedative and analgesic action it finds a wide range of uses. Auriculotherapy is also useful for treating psychic and behavioral changes, insomnia, smoking and substance addiction.

Auricular therapy sees the ear as a human fetus, a kidney, a brain

The ear in its three-dimensionality mirrors a centripetal-centrifugal spiral that has its center in the root of the helix. The function of the ear as a whole is to pick up some particular frequency waves that propagate in the air and that are perceived and decoded by the human brain as sounds. Furthermore, the inner ear has an additional spiral structure: there are channels in the ear that allow the body to be balanced in space, making it also an organ in charge of movement. According to auriculotherapy, the shape of the auricle remembers the kidney, whose energy is the basis of human life.

In the "renal orbis" the kidney is represented not only as a functional organ of urinary filtration, but it is associated with adrenal and hormonal function, calcium metabolism and other important functions. Here it is also contained, according to the theories of auriculotherapy, the vital energy potential that is transmitted to us from the ancestral chromosomal energy, that is from our parents. The kidney is therefore the archetypal symbol of life and is reproduced in symbolic form in relief on the sides of the face.

If we observe better we also discover that at the ear it is possible to overlap a fetus in a collected position, so the lobe is the head. Being the man one with his embryonic life, with the cosmos to which he belongs and with evolution, every signal on the body can refer to different keys: the auriculotherapy leads the signals from the body to the ear and there he looks for solutions. The auricle contains information from the entire body, so it can also be considered as a small brain near the main brain: auricular therapy sees the ear as an antenna that on one side receives internal signals and decodes them at the level of subcutaneous nerve network of the pavilion and on the other is able to transmit information of various kinds from the outside to the body.

As is practically done in auriculotherapy

Auriculotherapy proceeds by identifying possible areas of the ear where local ear therapies can be applied. Small beveled metal spikes, leading material, thin needles, these are the materials for applications. Once identified which is the area of the ear that is linked to the weakening of a certain part of the body or of the psyche, we proceed with the stimulation and insertion of the metal parts. In several respects the auricular therapy is very similar to acupuncture, although it has some characteristics that make it a much more peculiar alternative therapy.

The points that have been identified in the ear are about 200, and, before being able to stimulate them, it is necessary to make a precise diagnosis by relying on a serious auriculotherapist who knows how to identify them precisely. Generally, following the pressure of a special instrument, pain is felt in these points. Generally the needles are kept fixtures in the points from 15 to 30 minutes, but there are also cases in which they are kept for several days and often pain is felt or there is swelling of the part that is fixed, this is completely normal. Auriculotherapy, although suitable for everyone, is not recommended for those suffering from heart failure, hypertension, gastric ulcers, inflammation, irritation and ear problems and in pregnancies at risk.
