Piercing and tattoo alarm
The alarm bell launched at the beginning of the year with the recommendations of the doctors of the Bambino Gesù pediatric hospital in Rome, in the January issue of "A scuola di salute", a manual that can be downloaded from the site itself that wants to give information about the piercing history and tattoos, hygiene, possible risks, infections or other dangers.
As reported by the hospital website “with tattoos and piercings it is possible to transmit bacterial infections on the skin, which can sometimes get into the blood and even involve the heart. Hepatitis B and C viruses can also be transmitted, and to a lesser extent also the AIDS virus. "
Furthermore, according to a recent report by Eu Science Hub, the risk of skin cancer resulting from these procedures has neither been tried nor excluded.
The skin absorbs memories, but not only
It is not just about who pierces the body with piercings or permanent tattoos, but also about the simple and apparently harmless black henna, which, obtained with a dangerous compound such as paraphenylenediamine (PPD), can cause fearful allergies.
Particularly exposed to risks deriving from such practices would be the carriers of cardiac valve defects, those with chronic pathologies or immunodeficiency, those who take anti-aggregation drugs, immunosuppressants or anticoagulants, boys with keloids and pregnant women .
So be careful to get to know the subject in depth and to whom and where piercings and tattoos are practiced.
Tattoo ink
Long-lasting metals and dyes used in tattoos - but also in permanent tricks - can be the primary causes of allergies and unwanted skin reactions.
These, as reported by the Paginemediche.it portal, can appear even years later, in the form of eczema, inflammation of the skin, pustules, psoriasis nodules or erythemas . They are in fact high concentrations of Nickel, Chromium or Cobalt - and the mix of the same in the ink - which could trigger even more serious allergies and disorders.
According to the final report of Eu Science Ub of the European Commission of 2016, it is shown that products for tattoos and for permanent make-up that contain dangerous substances have been found on the European market. Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, aromatic amines, heavy metals, preservatives, as well as microbiological contaminants have been identified in percentage dates in the samples analyzed.
Regulations for tattoos
What is being asked, and which is still lacking, is legislation that indicates precisely how the regulations are in this sense.
If you do a search on the website of the Ministry of Health, you can just read about which colors for tattoos have been withdrawn from the market but, as the site itself indicates in a Publication about cosmetics and tattoos “if it was possible to standardize the indications regarding cosmetic products, this has not yet happened for tattoos ”, although the European Commission has asked several times to do so.
It would indeed be essential to have legislation that ensures a regulation on pigments, as well as on hygienic conditions and on professional training.
