Coming back from vacation with an unpleasant disturbance? In summer, with the elevated temperatures, annoying problems can arise such as the appearance of external hemorrhoids.
In fact, with the heat, those suffering from this disorder can be more easily subjected to the manifestation, due to a process of vasodilation and inflammation of the part with prolapse of the hemorrhoidal vessels.
It can also happen to those who face a journey or a demanding holiday due to tiredness, climate change, a different diet, constipation or dysentery ... and hemorrhoids become unwanted travel companions.
How can we intervene to prevent and resolve if we are unable to consult a proctologist immediately?
Remedies against summer hemorrhoids
> Drink a lot : water is always one of the first remedies we need to adopt, to hydrate the body, to calm inflammation and to help the intestine with its functions.
The advice is to consume at least a liter and a half of water a day and more;
> Food : fresh seasonal fruit, raw vegetables, fibers help intestinal transit and increase hydration and the intake of vitamins and mineral salts .
It is good to avoid alcohol, coffee, carbonated drinks, processed protein foods, fried foods, a little salt and a little sugar;
> Rusco: rich in saponins, ruscogenins, ruscus plays a vasoconstrictor and capillarotropic action, extinguishes inflammation, reduces swelling and localized influx. We can take rusco in dry extract, in drops and for topical application there are specific creams based on extracts of butcher's broom;
> Horse Chestnut : it has phlebotonic, anti-inflammatory, astringent properties . It is indicated in case of hemorrhoids due to venous insufficiency, varicose veins, swollen ankles, capillary fragility. We can take the horse chestnut in dry extract or in phytocomplexes with butcher's broom, red vine, centella asiatica and in bud-derived.
For external use there are topical preparations often in synergy with the butcher's broom to reduce swelling and disinfect the part.
> Witch hazel : rich in astringent tannins, rutin and P vitamins, witch hazel has an astringent, phlebotonic action . Works very well in synergy with the remedies already illustrated.
We can insert it into our herbal tea for internal use and if we find the commercially available witch hazel mucilage without alcohol we can use it as a topical remedy, to decongest the part.
Be careful, however, not to confuse the aqueous solution of mucilage with the essence or the hydroalcoholic solution which instead are not to be applied to the skin or mucous membranes because they are irritating.
What not to do in case of hemorrhoids
Some warnings to follow when hemorrhoids appear in order not to worsen the condition and above all to avoid mistakes that often occur:
> Do not undergo cold water washing or even apply ice, because the cold would lead to spasms of the anal musculature and possible throttling of the hemorrhoids;
> Do not lift weights or make loading efforts because they may worsen extroflections and bleeding;
> Do not prefer a sedentary lifestyle, staying still or lying down does not feel the discomfort much, but the venous circulation is not stimulated and the prolapse is even more "nourished";
> no alcohol, stimulate vasodilation!
