Cardamom coffee, how to prepare it



Cardamom coffee is the " qahwa ", a flavored coffee very common in the Middle East. In Ethiopia it is instead called " buna ". The ancient Arab tradition has always seen spiced coffee, with cardamom, with cinnamon, with nutmeg.

Then the Turkish tradition has "purged" coffee of all these aromas to better taste the original flavor.

If we want to prepare a spicy drink we can do it very easily at home, and learn how we are usually used to mocha .

We must equip ourselves with green cardamom seeds, from 3 to 5. We can crush them in a mortar and add them to the quantity of coffee powder to be placed in the mocha filter, and prepare the coffee as usual.

Certainly it is not like the original recipe that sees the roasting of coffee seeds together with spicy seeds and then a global pulverization process, but it would be a little more complex and laborious and we should start with green coffee.

Cardamom and its properties

The Elettaria Cardamomum is the green cardamom, it belongs to the ginger family, the Zingiberaceae and it is a rare and precious spice, therefore also expensive.

Cardamom has been used in various cultures, the Indian, the Chinese for its various properties. Contains vitamin C, manganese, potassium, magnesium:

> facilitates digestion, because it stimulates the production of gastric juices, and counteracts meteorism;

> disinfects the urinary tract ;

> enisce disorders of the upper airways such as coughs and colds;

> disinfects gums, indicated in case of halitosis: 4 or 5 chewing berries during the day help to counteract heavy breath and gum bacteria;

> accelerates fat metabolism, therefore useful in case of slimming diets.

We can use the Cardamom berries by crushing them to prepare decoctions, or we can chew them directly. There are also various recipes for making desserts or dishes with the addition of cardamom as a spice.

Contraindications

Cardamom is generally well tolerated.

However, its use is not recommended to those who suffer from gallbladder stones because it could stimulate their contraction and start painful colic.

It is contraindicated in case of use of antiplatelet drugs because it could interact and increase the effect.
