Ankle pain: possible causes and main remedies

Ankle pain ? Difficult to understand at first glance what it is.

The joints are areas of great kinetic exchange of different nature: muscular, bony, connective and nervous.

The specificities are multiple, sometimes involving multiple parts, sometimes originating from far away ... .. Let's see what are the possibilities that involve our ankles.

Ankle reading

In psychosomatics the lower limbs represent the means to "go on", our independence, but also our relational space to go .

The ankle in particular symbolizes the decision of how, when and where to move or not move. It is a place of stability, elasticity or rigidity.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine tendons and joints are governed by the energy of the Liver, considered the "Minister of War", deputy to courageous decisions, taking a position.

When our joints, especially wrists, knees and ankles are sore there may be energy stagnations of Liver to work with.

Causes of ankle pains

> Distortion : it is a widespread trauma among those who practice sport, but even if we walk a little distracted and we don't notice holes or steps. It consists of a partial dislocation of the talus, the upper bone of the foot in conjunction with the tibia and fibula. In severe cases the ankle swells and resting the foot becomes very painful.

> Ligament injury: may be injured due to trauma, a bad fall, an unnatural movement that caused it to stretch. Also in these cases swelling, ecchymosis, little stability of the ankle are the verifiable symptoms.

> Tendonitis : a trauma such as distortion may follow, but it may also be caused by an incorrect posture that lasts over time. The pain is localized, insistent and difficult to manage, without swelling generally, although in the case of tendonitis in the Achilles tendon instead the heel is swollen and with little motility of the foot.

> Bursitis : it is a form of inflammation of the serous tendon of the Achilles tendon, caused by repeated workloads, typical of sports such as soccer or running. It manifests itself with localized pain, swelling and redness.

> Fracture : ankle fracture can involve multiple bone districts and often also involves ligaments. The pain due to the fracture is intense, with swelling, hematoma and deformation to be realigned.

Ankle: a complex articulation

The ankle is the joint that as we all know connects the leg to the foot and essentially involves three bone districts : fibula, tibia and talus, converging to the joint capsule which, thanks to the synovial fluid, allows movements without friction and trauma.

Laterally to the ankle, internal and external, to support it we find the ligaments, and around it there are the tendons that perform the function of joining the muscles of the leg to the foot.

To complete the physiology of the ankle there are two serous bursae that contain the synovial fluid: the retro calcaneal bursa and the backachial bag.
