6 lucky foods to eat on New Year's Eve

Why do we eat lentils at New Year's?

Here is a list of propitiatory foods for your New Year and some simple and nice ideas.

New Year and ancestral rites

They come from the Greek or Roman traditions, they are lost along the streets of the Silk, coming from the Far East, or they are simply the wise rites of the peasants or "holy men" of the country.

How important food is and whether or not it infuses energy can be sensed and put into practice even more at New Year, with the transition from old to new year.

So choose foods, decorations and centerpieces, colors and clothes that can propitiate a good 2017, bring peace and health at home and maybe some small financial aid!

1. Lentils

Here they are hot on the table, inevitable, many and simply stewed with shallot, tomato, salt and pepper.

Lentils, beloved by vegans and vegerarians, are on everyone's plates at New Year because they bring good, in particular they are said to bring money : thanks to their round and flat shape, they look like many small coins .

Why not use lentils, filling small colored bags , as a placeholder for setting and decorating even the Last table?

2. Mandarins

Both Italian and small Chinese mandarins . Their bright color is reminiscent of gold, so their symbolism is connected to wealth and abundance .

Eating too many is healthy, thanks to the vitamin C they contain. Don't miss them as a post-binge final "degreaser"!

3. Pomegranate

In Greek mythology the pomegranate plant itself was considered sacred .

The small red and juicy grains are widely used in India to make drinks and sweet juices for moisturizers, and, according to the Indians, they are precious allies to fight sterility .

How to serve the maelagrana at New Year? In addition to opening it as it is, naturally, by distributing grains to everyone, it can be used for the preparation of risotto, blending a part to be put at the end of cooking and holding a few grains to decorate each dish, see next point!

4. Rice

Of all colors, integral, red, black. Rice brings abundance, so go ahead to risotto with vegetables or seasonal fruit, such as pomegranate risotto, and sprinkle a nice trail directly onto the table, perhaps drawing Indian kolam, and steal some grain to keep in your pocket!

5. Chili pepper

Red like pomegranate, chilli chases away trouble and misfortune. Scaramanzia wants its sharp shape to destroy the evil eye .

Ancient peoples like Aztecs and Mayans already used it as medicine. To give us precious nutrients and substances that are good for the stomach, get at least a couple of strong ones to dress vegetables or to prepare sauces, such as the "pico de gallo" sauce for nachos as an aperitif .

6. Grapes

If you eat grapes on New Year's Eve, count the money all year long! This explains why the Spaniards eat a berry every time the bell tolls when the year passes .

You too can imitate them, filling the table with this fruit of the abundance of each color, but be careful not to gorge yourself!

What is not eaten on New Year?

No chicken, turkey or birds, anything that flies could take away fortune.

Not even crab or lobster is good, because walking backwards symbolizes "taking steps backwards" instead of forward!
