Description of the Ammonium Carbonicum

Ammonium Carbonicum is the ammonium salt of carbonic acid having a chemical formula (NH4) 2CO3. It is a transparent crystalline salt with a strong smell of ammonia, a pungent and caustic taste and is very soluble in water.

Ammonia is formed in nature following the decomposition of organic substances and is present in small quantities in our atmosphere, while it is a significant component of many planets and comets. At one time, ammonia was used in the anise liqueur and was used as a stimulant, cardiotonic and diaphoretic.

Today it is used to produce fertilizers, explosives and synthetic fibers. The ammonium carbonate was used at one time to make up the salts that were made to smell in the event of fainting. In itself, Ammonium Carbonicum is toxic, analogous to some poisons, in particular those of snake bites, which cause severe blood poisoning and therefore an antidote to them.

The homeopathic remedy Ammonium carbonicum is obtained from dilutions, interspersed with dynamizations, in a solution of distilled water of the ammonium sesqui-carbonate.

When using the Ammonium Carbonicum

Ammonium carbonicum acts in chronic fatigue and weakness, in cases of low blood pressure with a tendency to faint, in the fragility of venous walls, difficulty breathing.

The same symptoms are often accompanied by tiredness and sleepiness during the day. It is a venous remedy with hemorrhagic tendencies. In fact, the remedy acts on the blood, on breathing, on the heart, on the nervous system, but also on the skin and mucous membranes.

It is indicated in the acute and chronic states of diseases characterized by blood poisoning that carry heart problems.

Ammonium carbonicum is used in the following main cases:

  • bleeding, nose bleeds or when coughing, hemorrhoids. Also as an antidote for snake bites
  • mucosal problems: mucous membranes of the nose irritated or swollen nose; mucous membranes of the mouth, saliva that excores the lips, which split and crack; dry eyelids, stye; ear discomfort, hearing difficulties; swollen and ulcerated throat, swollen and painful tonsils; mucous membranes of the female genitalia, excoriation of the vagina and lips, with swelling and pain. Irritating menstruation, abundant and early, accompanied by groin pain and dental neuralgia; heartburn, often after eating, excoriating stools
  • respiratory problems, phlegm, asthma, cough
  • kidney disorders with the appearance of swelling and heart problems
  • generalized rheumatic pains, neuralgia, bone pains in all parts of the body
  • skin problems, boils, abscesses, itches, eruptions and excoriations; hair loss

Doses and administration

For all cases the most recommended dilutions are D4 or 4CH, generally at a dose of 2 - 3 granules or 3 - 5 drops to be taken 2 - 3 times a day.

For throat and respiratory problems, the association with Aurum triphylum 5CH, 2 granules 2 times a day, which add trace elements such as copper + manganese and sulfur, once a day, alternating with each other is useful.

In the case of colds it is useful to alternate with Sambucus nigra 4CH. In cases of renal disorders 4CH dilution, 2 granules or 3 drops 2 times a day, alternating with robust 4CH Grindelia at the same dose.

When symptoms appear, you can add Phosphorus triiodatus 5CH, 5 granules immediately to be repeated only once after 1 h or after 2 h. It is always advisable to contact your trusted homeopath.

To whom Ammonium Carbonicum is recommended

The person who needs Ammonium Carbonicum has a heavy breathing, palpitations, at night he has to breathe with his mouth and by day he opens the window: he wants fresh air, despite being cold .
