Mayr diet: how it works, benefits, contraindications



The Mayr diet is a diet designed by the Austrian doctor Franz Xaver Mayr, which requires a fasting phase to cleanse the intestines of toxins. Let's find out better.

What is the Mayr diet

The Austrian doctor Franz Xaver Mayr (1875-1965), who specialized in treating digestive disorders, designed the Mayr diet . By studying the latter, he came to formulate a method that rebalanced the entire body. For Mayr the main cause of many diseases is found in the accumulation of toxins in the intestine.

Meals eaten too fast, overpriced dinners, cellulose-rich foods, neglected chewing are all factors that affect the health of the intestine.

According to Mayr intoxication occurs through four stages : excitement (the body reacts to toxins producing energy), depression (used up all the energy the body runs out of), cellular degeneration (the body's cells lose their integrity to cause of the accumulation of toxins and begin to die), the neoplasm (the surviving cells go crazy reproducing themselves in abnormal nuclei that give rise to cancer).

There are also four stages of the Mayr diet :

  • First 3-10 days : fasting preparation phase
  • From 2 to 4 weeks : fasting attenuated, only breakfast and lunch are allowed, consisting of bread and milk. In case of intolerance to milk, it can be replaced with yogurt or 0.5 l of vegetable broth.
  • Some weeks : gradual return to normal nutrition. Foods that are poor in cellulose are consumed especially, and fruit and vegetables are gradually added.
  • Definitive diet : designed according to the patient's condition and lifestyle.

The fulcrum of dr. Mayr is in the first phase, in the rest of the digestive system which, by not offering food to the intestine, forces the body to use its energies to get rid of toxins.

Bread, milk, plenty of water and vegetables, before replacing the other foods. The Mayr diet, rather than from the point of view of foods, can be described through the three ancient and tested therapeutic methods that compose it, recommended in the millennia by popular wisdom and used by many great doctors of the past (Hippocrates, Galen, Salerno School, Arabia, India, China):
