The natural hair color

The use of 100% vegetable products in colors is not so obvious and easy to find. No doubt it is important to know how to read the label .

The ingredients of vegetable origin are usually written in Latin, while the chemical ones are generally reported in English. Reading the INCI ( International Nomenclature of Cosmetic Ingredients ), that is the list of ingredients, is fundamental because sometimes the companies that produce hair dyes speak of natural product when, perhaps, together with vegetable ingredients, the dye also contains chemical components.

Let's see then what are the natural shades for hair .

The color: how natural is it?

Giving an answer to this question is not so immediate. The trusted herbalist would answer you: a real color can rarely be considered completely natural!

It is well known that there are hundreds of types of do-it-yourself and packaged dyes on the market, which have different formulations within them, sometimes without para-phenylenediamine, ammonia, resorcinol, ortho-aminophenol, alpha-naphthol. Others are without hydrogen peroxide, hypoallergenic and nickel-tested.

Starting from the assumption that the more a thing is made of products with the names we know, the more natural it is, we can put among the first in the ranking among the natural shades the henna and the domestic coloring obtained with herbs and plants .

But not even all henna can be said to be completely natural products : the more the henna moves away from the characteristic red color of the plant, the more it means that there have been additions of components that are so often not natural.

Moreover it must be considered that a real color is generally covering, that is it changes the natural color of the hair or covers the white ones, therefore it is for this reason tendentially less natural; instead, what gives reflections and colors, but without altering the base, is generally a more natural product.

And nature: when is it dyed?

There are also completely natural substances that give the hair nuances and particular shades, useful for those with few white hair, slightly opaque if used consistently. The so-called domestic dyes are able to give vitality to the hair without ruining it or changing its structure.

Among these are, for the light shades and the blond, the chamomile, to prepare as an infusion and to leave on the hair as long as possible, the lemon, which lightens considerably. Then there are the cloves, the sage, the walnut kernels, the ivy and the alder that instead contribute to giving dark reflections to brown or raven hair. Red is obtained with the use of henna, ( Lawsonia inermis ), or with hypericum flowers, the hypericine contained gives iridescent reflections.

One can thus have fun and indulge in preparing reflective compounds to be used daily, adding white or red vinegar to preserve and polish, invigorating herbs such as oregano and perfumed and antiseptic essential oils .

However the natural color you have chosen for your hair, be careful not to stain the skin or fabrics when you put it on! Here are a few little tricks to fix the color, only when it's time!

  • Never separate yourself from plastic gloves
  • spread a good dose of oily cream or oil around the hairline, on the nape or on the ears, to avoid spots on the skin
  • divide the hair into locks with the use of a comb and precede from the root to the ends putting the product with a brush
  • remember to fix the color with a couple of lemon drops at the end, while rinsing your hair for the first time
  • a good nourishing mask is effective to complete the work: remember that honey, olive oil and yoghurt deeply nourish the hair

Substances and active ingredients

In nature, plants are the main "producers" of active ingredients as they are the only ones to provide living beings with organic substance and oxygen, using only the sun, water and minerals present in the soil. Over time, man has learned to use other natural substances, not of plant origin, to heal and stay healthy...
