Healing the body through energy may seem to many as an absurd idea, certainly not immediately rational on the other, if we consider that it is a question of treating the visible with the invisible. Yet we are talking about energy, or something that is the subject of scientific studies and that regulates all human activities.

Reiki is a simple technique that uses a particular type of energy in order to restore health and induce relaxation and well-being. The word Reiki indicates the Universal Life Energy. It is defined as that strength that operates and lives in all things of creation . The word is of Japanese origin and consists of two parts. The syllable Rei describes the universal unlimited aspect of this energy. While Ki is a part of the Rei, it is the life force that flows through everything that lives. It seems, with these statements, to enter a side that is foreign to science. In reality, modern physics itself confirms this perspective. Everything is charged with energy and tends to release it.

The ancient traces of Reiki seem to come from Sanskrit texts found in a Zen temple by Mikao Usui, a samurai and Japanese theologian, but healing with Reiki in the northern areas of India and Tibet are also reported in sutra texts. An Indo-Chinese-Tibetan multi-ethnic origin therefore seems very likely. In the West, Reiki was introduced by Hawayo Takata. However, there are considerable differences between Eastern and Western Reiki. Let's better see what Reiki is characterized in Italy.

The Reiki landscape in Italy is very extensive, complex and varied. A significant presence of schools, centers, courses and seminars, as well as numerous activities of practitioners and Reiki masters is striking. It is not possible to make a numerical estimate, as the location of Reiki is quite heterogeneous.

The main Reiki schools in Italy tend to follow the most important international systems. Among these, the more traditional and classic methods are favored, therefore not characterized by particular variations on the original Usui method.

Among the most important centers in terms of visibility and activity we can mention the Free Reiki school of Padua, founded in 1997 by the psychologist and Reiki master Dario Canil, who proposes in various cities, together with the traditional three-level method and Karuna Reiki, the Usui Ryoho, aiming to teach a series of energy work techniques taken directly from the Japanese tradition as it is today experienced within the Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai.

In addition to this, the promotional activity of La Città della Luce, by Ripe (Ancona), "Intentional Community composed of Reiki Masters" is also very important, which covers a series of other centers and realities scattered throughout Italy.

In Italy, the Italian Reiki Association is fundamental. Among its objectives, the dissemination of the traditional Japanese method. This happens through conferences and events, but above all through individual and group sessions at the association's offices.
