If we talk about zone diet, the term zone indicates that metabolic state in which the body works at its maximum efficiency: therefore the body will work better, there will be no hunger attacks and you will feel full of energy.
Barry Sears argues that to achieve optimal mental and physical state, carbohydrates, proteins and fats must be balanced .
In this way, there will also be a reduction in any excess body fat.
The zone diet follows some precise rules ; the first one, foresees, in fact, that at every meal the certain quotas of carbohydrates, proteins and fats are assumed; the other rules are: do not spend more than 5 hours between meals ; reduce carbohydrates with a high glycemic index, that is, those that mostly stimulate the production of insulin; eat plenty of vegetables and fruit with a low glycemic index; do not go to bed on an empty stomach (the last meal or snack must take place no later than two hours before going to sleep).
The Italian zone diet
The Italian zone diet is located halfway between the Mediterranean diet and the actual zone diet. The traditional area, in fact, banishes, as we said, carbohydrates with another glycemic index - bread, pasta, pizza, so to speak - and therefore it moves away very much from our food tradition.
The Italian zone diet, while following the principles of the original Barry Sears diet, also introduces carbohydrates with a high glycemic index into the nutrition tables. Therefore, whoever decides to follow the Italian zone diet will not be forced to give up, for example, a nice plate of tomato penne.
However, even the Italian zone diet, while admitting these foods, recommends consuming them in moderation. In summary, the Italian version of this diet is more related to the context in which we live and takes into account the eating habits of our country. For those who want to learn more about the Italian zone diet, it may be useful to read the books of nutritionist biologist Gigliola Braga, one of the first to study the zone diet in Italy.
As with all diets, do-it-yourself is absolutely not recommended .
