If we talk about partridge eyes we talk about formations similar to calluses, or keratinous accumulations that concentrate on the feet and that can be very painful.
We try to understand better why they are called that and what they consist of.
The Tiloma
The eye of partridge has a more technical definition and in dermatology it is called "tiloma" . It consists of a thickening of the skin that can reach deep layers and cause a lot of pain to the touch, or to the pressure.
Compared to a callus, the stratum corneum considered by the partridge's eye is smaller and only forms on the feet.
The cause of these accumulations is due to rubbing and pressure on the part often caused by inadequate shoes, too narrow, of too rigid material. In some cases, even excessively high heels can be a contributing cause, as the fingers friction between them.
The partridge eye is formed more easily in the case of anatomical deformations of the foot such as the hallux valgus or the hammer toe, in which there are bony prominences or conformations that see rubbings of the parts with the worn shoe.
There are two types of bird's eye:
> the hard tiloma, the size of roundish with a sort of spine at the center. It is easy to find it on the fifth finger near the joint
> The soft tiloma, small and rough to the touch, generally nestled between the fingers.
Remedies for partridge eyes
It is advisable to contact an expert to remove the tiloma in an appropriate manner, with sterile instruments and a firm hand that reaches deep to flush out the stratum corneum that causes the most pain.
It is important to know the cause that led to the formation of the partridge eye to correct the problem where possible.
Then there are remedies to prevent the formation of corneous thickenings so deep and that help to keep the epidermis soft:
> Salicylic acid creams and gels, with a filling effect on the stratum corneum
> Urea ointments with exfoliating effect, leaving the skin soft and hydrated
> Pumice stone to be used daily during foot cleansing. Removes thickened dead cells, helps and prevents stratification of horny tissue.
Warnings
For people suffering from diabetes, careful care of the foot by a professional like a podiatrist is recommended to avoid possible infections with DIY and the use of salicylic acid based creams is not recommended.
