Jasmine for herbal tea: benefits and uses



Beautiful ornamental plant, highly appreciated fragrance, the benefits of jasmine for internal use are often misunderstood.

In particular, the jasmine flower, specifically of the officinal variety called Jasminum Officinale, also called common jasmine, is perfect, alone or combined with other ingredients, to make fragrant herbal teas .

The infusion or herbal tea with jasmine has above all relaxing and antispasmodic properties, which go to benefit the nervous system; secondly it has an antioxidant effect.

The flowers were used already in ancient times to appease the headache and to give relief in case of severe menstrual pain. Its calming properties also relieve states of stress and insomnia, helping to promote sleep.

The herbal tea or jasmine infusion is prepared by gathering the white and fragrant flowers at the end of the summer, or by buying them dried at the most well-equipped herbalist's shops. In the first case they are washed and gently rinsed.

Today there are also on the market prepared in sachets or pods based on jasmine flowers.

Jasmine herbal tea can be used as a relaxing and soothing evening, to gently and handsomely accompany your sleep; however, up to three lukewarm cups can be consumed per day when desired. Here is how it is prepared.

Jasmine infusion

Ingredients :

> a pair of little beans of fresh or dried jasmine flower petals

> a cup of water

Preparation : in a saucepan, heat the water without boiling it, that is by turning off the heat when the first small bubbles are formed.

Then add a couple of teaspoons of fresh or dried jasmine flowers, leaving it to infuse covered for about 4 or 5 minutes. The mixture is then filtered and tasted to taste, with little honey or lemon.

Combinations : one of the most interesting combinations is jasmine combined with white grapes and passiflora, lemon balm and linden extracts : a relaxing herbal tea with a unique and unmistakable aroma, delicate and fruity at the same time.

Contraindications : it is not recommended to take the herbal tea with jasmine during pregnancy, as there is a risk that the contractions increase. In any case, it is always good to hear the opinion of an expert directly.

Curiosity : a legend tells that the jasmine flowers are stars fallen on the earth, which give their smell at night, being tied to Venus and the Moon. The Arabs considered him the king of flowers and is still today a symbol of femininity par excellence.
