Catarrh in children, how to eliminate it

Mucus is a product of the body that is secreted by the glands located on the mucous membranes of the respiratory tract walls. Every day it is physiological to produce mucus up to over 500 ml and this viscous secretion is used to capture microorganisms, bacteria and viruses or even other waste materials that must be expelled from our body.

In addition, mucus is necessary to maintain moisture and hydration throughout the respiratory tract.

When the mucus does not flow and becomes denser we have the formation of the most viscous and more difficult to expectorate phlegm.

Usually the catarrh is light almost transparent or white while if the presence of incorporated substances increases and the continuous stagnation the color changes to green. This means that an infection is in place and even the smell can become unpleasant due to the presence of pus and other waste materials.

The color of the phlegm also changes according to the type of infection if of bacterial origin it is white in color while if of viral origin it turns to yellow.

Catarrh in children

Catarrh in children is very frequent and is usually a malaise caused by the presence of an inflammation in the airways due to diseases such as colds, coughs or bronchitis .

In newborns the frequent appearance of the phlegm is also given by their difficulty to still perform movements such as being able to turn sideways on one side and this increases the risk of stagnation of the mucus.

Together with the formation of the phlegm, the cough disorder is often associated, which helps the expectoration of the phlegm from the mouth. Both cough and drip from the nose are physiological responses of the body that try to eliminate stagnant catarrh in the airways.

To help this phlegm elimination process we can use natural remedies suitable for children . These will be necessary to dissolve the phlegm and thin it towards the elimination pathways from the body.

Surely the first solution to dissolve the phlegm is to give heat so that physically the congested mucus can begin to flow back before being expectorated from the nose or mouth.
