March 28, 2015: is the Earth Hour



Are you really ready? Countdown to the biggest challenge, to save the world! You only have to tune the clocks and turn off the light.

The ninth edition of Earth Hour takes place all over the world at 20:30 local time on Saturday 28th March 2015 . A wave of switch-offs from one continent to another, from 8.30pm to 9.30pm switches lowered from the Pacific to the Atlantic coasts, which means a great sigh of relief for the Planet Earth. And there is also a " photo action ".

Earth Hour is the global mobilization devised a decade ago to stop climate change, a serious threat to the planet's survival.

The Earth Day, in world terms, will be an event that will involve more than 120 countries, born in 2007 in Australia, in Sydney, and will rise again with the cry of " Change Climate Change "! Change climate change!

Italian map of "in the dark" events

With the high patronage of the Presidency of the Republic, even Italy and the WWF site are gathering countless accessions from various parts of the peninsula to spend the hour of darkness under the banner of environmental sustainability and respect for the planet.

The map of events can be viewed on the official Italian website, to participate and also to propose and organize them, let's see some of them:

  • Turning off city symbols such as: St. Peter's Basilica, the Colosseum and Piazza del Campidoglio in Rome, Ponte Vecchio Palazzo Vecchio and the statue of David in Piazzale Michelangelo in Florence, the Sforzesco Castle in Milan, the Palazzo Accursio in Bologna, the Arena di Verona, Piazza San Marco in Venice and many others.
  • In Naples, among the cities that this year has more to do for the event, in addition to the switching off of the Maschio Angioino and Piazza Plebiscito, the whole day on Saturday will be especially dedicated to many themed events that will involve those present in laboratories and activities dedicated to solar energy; while in the evening, after the general darkness, the city will be rekindled with many shows, art, culture and music.
  • Even some of the WWF Oases join in organizing special events for that evening, from Orbetello and Orti Bottagone in Tuscany to Macchiagrande nel Lazio, from Alviano in Umbria to the Bosco di Vanzago in Lombardy. And then Valpredina, Valmanera, Miramare, the Cesine, Ripa Bianca of Jesi and Monte Arcosu, just gather information on the site.

Subscriptions are open on the website www.wwf.it/oradellaterra for all citizens, businesses and institutions. After the first edition in 2007 that involved the city of Sydney alone, the domino effect of the Earth Hour in 2014 turned off the light in 7000 cities in 163 countries of the world, involving over 2 billion people, hundreds of companies.

All famous with an hour of darkness

Participating in Earth Hour this year is even more "social": on social media you can follow and share the event with #YourPower # EarthHour2015 #OradellaTerra ; you will be able to send the most beautiful photos of the switching off of your own city or of the event that everyone will organize at home or with friends.

The most significant photos will be shared by the official websites of WWF Italia during the course of the event and will remain in memory in a global book.

Partner of the initiative : also this year the business world is alongside WWF for Earth Hour. Main partner of the event will be WIND, but also Auchan, Mutti, Sofidel, UniCredit and Gabel. Their offices and points of sale will symbolically go out on the night of March 28th. This year, the free app for public transport will also join this year. Next to Earth Hour this year is also Glamoo.com, the all-Italian Social Shopping site.
