How to make an ecological fabric softener at home

How to make an ecological and economic softener with only 2 ingredients at home: respecting the environment, the health of the skin and even the wallet.

Soft and perfumed clothes in a natural way

Why make the house an ecological fabric softener? First of all to respect the environment: the do-it-yourself softener is in fact prepared with natural and biodegradable ingredients that pollute less than the products on the market.

Secondly, the softener is a product destined to remain in the fibers of our clothes and therefore in contact with our skin, going to worsen very widespread problems such as acne, skin sensitivity and dermatitis.

By preparing the fabric softener at home we will also be able to save money, since it is an economic product for which only two ingredients are available, which can be found easily and at really low prices: distilled water and citric acid. The fabric softener that we will prepare at home with these two simple ingredients will respect the environment, the wallet, our skin and even the washing machine, preventing the formation of limestone and incrustations.

The softener will not contain perfume, therefore it will be suitable also for the most sensitive and delicate skins: if you want to perfume the linen, you can perfume the laundry in a natural way with essential oils or using naturally perfumed herbs and spices.

Do-it-yourself ecological softener: the recipe

As we have said, to prepare an ecological fabric softener at home you need only 2 ingredients and the process is really very simple.

In fact, distilled water, which you can also buy at the supermarket, and citric acid, available online or in natural products stores, will be sufficient.

The doses of the following recipe serve only as an example, since maintaining the proportions you can prepare even more softener at a time and have it available for longer: on the total of the finished product, the water must represent 90% and the citric acid the 10%.

When deciding how much to prepare, keep in mind that 1 liter of do-it-yourself fabric softener is sufficient for 5 washes .

Ingredients

> 100 g of citric acid;

> 900 ml of distilled water.

Preparation

Weigh the distilled water and add the citric acid; mix well with a spoon to dissolve the citric acid and transfer the solution into a bottle, using a funnel.

Store the bottle at room temperature and use about 200 ml of DIY softener by adding it to the washing machine tray when you do the laundry.
