What are the messages that the body sends and which should be captured in order to review the posture?
In fact, our posture draws who we are and so our body language, as many psychologists explain.
Let's see then what these messages are, which can be interpreted as symptoms of an incorrect posture .
Symptoms of incorrect posture
The social psychologist Amy Cuddy in a nice speech on TED (which we propose in the video below) explains how perception and posture influence each other (find subtitles also in Italian). When the alarm bell becomes real it means that a posture has been held for a long time and under certain circumstances.
For example:
- becoming small, the cervical tract shortens, with significant consequences on all the physiological waves of the spine.
- Man has always expanded and acquires power and expresses pride even through the body, but a pride that hides fear can force the person to expose the pectorals in an excessive way, against the lumbar tract ;
- Knee pain often betrays a real inability to move forward, to look ahead in life.
In general, if a reduction in the potential for neck movement is observed, it is possible that this is a symptom of incorrect posture. In the long run the incorrect posture affects the mechanics and can create problems in the cartilage and in the joints of the lower or upper limbs.
The load is badly distributed and the points where it is concentrated are affected. This can in the long run generate inflammatory states such as osteoarthritis. Movement reduction usually precedes pain and functional reduction.
The advice for a correct posture at any time of the day
At the cranial level the symptoms of incorrect posture are found in:
- teeth not aligned,
- mandible in / out,
- pops / noises to open and close the mouth,
- dizziness,
- in trigeminal pains,
- pain / pressure to the eyeballs
- various hearing disorders such as a sense of itching and tinnitus.
There is a tendency not to link fatigue, cardiac arrhythmia, asthenia, depression as symptoms of postural defects and instead are clear signs of a postural imbalance .
One discovers them, treats them and considers them for the importance they have also thanks to movement, self-observation (of daily gestures, step in walking), meditation, the support of a good osteopath or chiropractor or a physiotherapist who considers the body as a holistic unit.
Posture and emotions
In the research field of therapies related to the exploration of emotions and posture we find many disciplines that can be considered a valid contribution - if not an overcoming - to the classical postural gymnastics .
In fact, entering into a habit and seeing it in a detached way with the help of someone who knows how to read the body, actions and postures can be the beginning of a revolutionary process of profound self-knowledge.
The transformation can take some time, especially if the habits are settled, but the insights come in an instant if the body moves under the guidance of the precious voice of a teacher from Feldenkrais or Bones for Life or bioenergetics.
In the case of bioenergetics there is indeed an exploration of the lived conducted by releasing the blocks of the body, which have their correspondence on an emotional level. Becoming aware of a postural vice is often the first step towards a total revolution in a useful and luminous sense.
