Why the "Migrant Health" project
The "Migrant Health" project was born to finance aid to migrants who need first assistance. This started positively thanks to the Eppela crowfounding platform: the loan was closed on December 29, 2017 and allowed to raise just over 5 thousand euros.
This money is needed and will serve to improve the reception conditions of people in transit, to bring them a minimum of care, to support minors and pregnant women or traumatized subjects, but not only. All through the use of resources and materials necessary to help and avoid the spread of infections : from specific drugs, to medical instruments, material for dressings and for the preparation during the visit.
Reception network for migrants
In 2015, about 150, 000 migrants fled wars, dictatorships and poverty, landing in Italy and then traveling and continuing their journey towards Northern Europe. These people come mainly from Nigeria, Ethiopia, Sudan, Eritrea and the capital does not have a point of worthy acceptance to ensure first aid.
Thanks to a solidarity network that started thanks to associations such as "Baobab Experience" and "Rights to the Heart", a team of simple volunteers was born, doctors, nurses who made their contribution, carrying out medical examinations and helping migrants.
Health care migrated to Rome
Thanks to the experience made in the field, during missions in Africa, the volunteers work by triage, then collect basic information and, once visited, they are advised the necessary therapy.
But where can these people be found? On the road. Yes, because everything does not have a specific location in Rome, people have been visited in meeting and care points along Via Cupa and then at the Tiburtina station. Often in adverse weather conditions, in difficult situations, without the necessary privacy. Equally often we found ourselves faced with difficult cases, pregnant women or victims of violence .
Among the other projects that the non-political and non-confessional " Rights of the Heart" promotes in Senegal there are: distance support for the children of Camberene (Dakar) and the Fatou project, school support for medical and nursing students. In Italy, in addition to the Migrant Health project, the association organizes seminars and conferences on human rights, international cooperation and free information, volunteer preparation courses, cultural events and fundraising events.
