Gyrotonic expansion system

The gyrotonic method

The gyrotonic method encompasses a series of exercises based on the principle of Intelligent Movement: with the minimum effort it is necessary to be able to produce the maximum force in our body.

Through circular and well-calibrated movements, similar to those of classical dance and swimming, freedom of movement is conferred to the joints, allowing on the one hand to work more deeply on ligaments and muscle attacks, increasing the functional capacity of the whole apparatus locomotor and, at the same time, embracing the principles of oriental medicine, the main passages of the body's energy are reopened.

From circular movements a vibration of the body is produced, a sound that is part of each of us. All movements of this type are covered by the so-called gyrotonic expansion system. Let's find out what it is.

Gyrotonic expansion system

The gyrotonic expansion system is a system of equipment and exercises specific to the human body.

The substantial difference with the other training systems and with the other equipment is the "dimensionality": unlike normal exercise machines, based on linearity and specificity of the single muscle, with non-uniform resistance, the gyrotonic expansion system can be defined as a three-dimensional system, which envelops every single muscle and joint, creating a constant and uniform resistance in the body. This means that, in addition to the muscles, tendons and ligaments are reinforced.

The movements made with the gyrotonic expansion system are therefore circular and, at the same time, spherical. The movements are graceful, incorporating yoga, tai-chi, swimming, dancing and gymnastics, while freedom of movement is complete. There are no limitations, neither in the body nor in the equipment.

The strength of the machines, thanks to a system of pulleys, is constant and harmonious, not producing jerks or blocks at the beginning and at the end of the exercises. The spine is thus safeguarded by microtraumas of this type.

The breathing associated with this type of movement is equally important. It is rhythmic-melodic breathing that goes hand in hand with the intensity, speed and duration of the exercise.

The gyrotonic expansion system is used by athletes and athletes, but can also be useful for the elderly, children and pregnant women thanks to the gentle movements. This versatility allowed the gyrotonic expansion system to win a prize in 1991 at the seventh International Invention Convention, held in Pittsburgh.
