Wood - the first of the 5 Feng Shui elements

Bambu is often used as a wood element in Feng Shui treatments.

With our article today we begin a cycle dedicated to the basic features of each element of Wu Xing. The Theory of 5 Elements includes in itself the concept of harmony between the elements. An imbalance, both in terms of lack and excess, can cause disturbances of which we often do not understand the causes. The 5 elements is all around us. Influence every aspect of our lives - character, behavior, health, emotions ...

Learning to understand and divide space, objects, everything around us - according to this theory - helps us to arrive at the natural balance between yin and yang.

The Wood element is the first of the 5 elements of Wu Xing of Feng Shui. It is associated with the East direction, the planet Jupiter, a windy climate and how spring represents awakening, the beginning, growth, life. It is the rising energy in upward movement.

The Wood element, like all the other elements of Wu Xing we can associate with various emotions, organs, flavors, and so on.

Therefore, the emotion associated with the Wood element is anger. The excess of this element can cause fits of anger, furies.

Have you noticed that often angry people suffer from eye or liver disorders? The explanation is that both the liver and the eyes are associated with the Wood element. Even our popular sayings somehow refer to the same theory of elements. The phrases like 'I can't see myself in anger', 'Eating the liver' or 'Having a transfer of bile' are examples with which we describe moments of anger. Bile is associated with the gall bladder, and this too belongs to the Wood element.

Guess what is the flavor associated with Wood? Obviously the harsh.

Introducing the Wood element into our outdoor environment is very easy - it is represented by the rectangular or cylindrical vertical shape and by the shades of green, beige. Plants are a classic example of the Wood element and are used for Feng Shui treatments as remedies. Wood as an element reduces the excess of Water, feeds the Fire, controls the Earth ... According to Ba Zhai the Wood element together with the element Water is suitable for strengthening the Sheng Qi sector (prosperity, wealth).

In the control cycle according to the 5 Elements the energy of the Wood is used to control the Earth element. An example? In the Flying Stars the presence of the star 2 - associated with the energy of Earth - when active as a mountain star causes frequent diseases. If we find it in the east, and we have no other choice and we are forced to use this sector as a bedroom, we can decrease or neutralize the negative effect of the star by introducing the Wood element instead of the Metal (usually recommended as the best cure for this ominous star ). Why? The East direction being already associated with the Wood element reinforces the positive effects of the care introduced.

Still talking about the environment according to Feng Shui, as can happen with all the other elements also the excess of wood in our environment can unbalance the harmony between the elements and cause some negativity. For example the star 3 associated among other things also to quarrels, discussions belongs to the element Wood. To neutralize its undesirable effects we must reduce the presence of this element but this is a theme for some other occasion ...

We have described some of the basic features associated with the first element of the Wu Xing cycle. If you have any questions you can write to us. In the meantime we will prepare the article on the second element.
