Mycosis to the feet: causes and remedies

With our feet we walk, run, swim, we necessarily support them everywhere, sometimes we wear shoes, sometimes we are barefoot.

Sometimes the shoes don't breathe, sometimes the feet sweat and we don't have the possibility to take off the shoes and to wash, if not after many hours.

In some places like swimming pools, the showers of the gyms, the feet are mostly exposed.

In short , our feet can be affected by a humid environment, easily infected and "take home" warts, mushrooms of various kinds, in the summer it is also easier.

The foot mycosis is called Tinea Pedis or Athlete's Foot, it attacks the sole of the foot and / or between the fingers.

Causes of foot mycosis

The organisms that cause the mycosis of the foot are pathogenic agents called dermatophytes, which proliferate in a hot, humid environment, affect the folds of the skin, find a green light in small lesions, in diabetic subjects, in overweight people .

When the body has weak immune defenses or after antibiotic treatment it is easier to come across fungal forms. Often then a bad hygiene, or on the contrary an excessive cleaning with aggressive products that do not respect the pH of the skin and impoverish the normal hydrolipidic film can be causes of exogenous nature. Sports shoes with little breathability, infected socks, are other vehicles for the radicalization of foot mycosis.

Remedies against foot fungus

Some notes of attention to how we treat our feet: we use good quality footwear, which let the foot breathe ; wash them thoroughly every day with suitable and not too aggressive products.

We conclude the footbaths always with cold water, in order not to excessively soften the skin, especially between the fingers. We use talcum powder or rice powder after drying the foot perfectly and if we sweat a lot we put some talcum powder in the shoes too. Let's change socks every day!

In the presence of mycoses, alongside the treatments prescribed by the doctor, we can combine some simple natural remedies with antifungal properties:

  • Tea tree essential oil: a few drops dissolved in the water with which we make medicated footbaths. Or we apply tea tree oil directly on the fungal patches. Tea tree is one of the very few essential oils that can be used pure. If the mycosis had even reached the nails, in that case it is better to dilute it in a carrier oil, because it could yellow a lot. Tea tree is an essential oil with a pungent, medicinal, spicy aroma. It has antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral properties . It is a cicatrizant and is indicated for skin infections, herpes, insect bites, warts, mycosis of skin and nails, candidiasis.
  • Vinegar : we can activate the footbaths with a few drops of vinegar - 1 part vinegar and 2 parts water. Let the feet soak for a few minutes to allow the vinegar to carry out the disinfectant action . We can also add coarse salt, useful for enhancing its action and for healing any lesions.
  • Ventilated Green Clay : we prepare a disinfectant, antifungal and cicatrising poultice . 2 tablespoons of green clay, a tablespoon of olive oil in which we dilute 5 drops of tea tree oil, 5 drops of essential oil of cloves, and water to dissolve the clay and prepare a thick pap. We apply the so prepared poultice on mycosis lesions and in nearby areas. We pack with the domopack and let it work for about half an hour or until we see that the clay dries, then rinse with almost cold water.
