Double Cleansing: the double detergency that comes from the East

The double cleansing, which translated into Italian means double detergency, is a popular practice in Eastern women who is also taking hold of us; a lot has been talked about lately, especially on the web, in blogs and forums dealing with beauty.

What is double detergency? The practice consists in washing the face twice in a row using two different detergents. The first detergent is used to remove make-up and the second to clean the skin thoroughly . It would seem the new frontier of facial cleansing; in reality the origin is very ancient.

It comes from Japan, where women used to first use an oil to remove the white make-up they had on their face and then a cleanser to complete the cleaning.

Why is it arousing so much curiosity ?

Is there a scientific basis or is it a marketing operation to push us to buy two products to cleanse the face instead of one? Dermatologists and professionals dealing with facial beauty seem to approve this practice and it seems that double cleansing can really help us to have healthier, more beautiful, brighter and younger looking skin.

Why double cleansing?

The make-up we use every day is formulated to last a long time. Moreover, the skin of the face is exposed to aggressive external stimuli, which come from environmental pollution and beyond. With the double detergency, first we remove most of the cosmetic products, bacteria and dirt we have on the face and then purify the skin thoroughly, making it softer and more receptive to the treatments we will apply later; for example it seems that in this way the effectiveness of the anti-wrinkle treatments could be increased by almost a third.

How do you double cleanse?

According to experts, the first detergent should have an oily base, as this kind of products is very effective in removing make-up and the creams we applied in the morning, for example those we use to protect us from the sun's rays.

The second detergent and, instead, should be water based, not necessarily foaming; delicate and, at the same time, able to remove, in addition to dirt and make-up residues, even the oily ones left by the first detergent. Of course, both detergents must be chosen according to their skin type; there are no products that are good for everyone. Furthermore, it is preferable to opt for mild and natural detergents.

The double detergency is a recommended practice especially in the evening, when, in fact, the skin is weighed down by the make-up we applied in the morning and by pollutants. In the morning, therefore, it would be sufficient to wash the face with just one product.

The importance of cleansing the face before going to sleep

The evening cleansing of the face is an operation we cannot avoid; to keep the skin beautiful and healthy it is essential to overcome laziness. And if the double detergency is not for us, let's commit ourselves to get rid of make-up and impurities using at least one product . Today we really have no more excuses; the market offers detergents for all needs and for all budgets, the really important thing is to clean the face before going to sleep, with a product suited to your skin type.
