Donate blood: a small infinitely important gesture

If we look beyond the boundaries of our lives, we would soon realize how (in most cases) the problems that distress us are futile compared to the tragedies that are consumed every day in the world.

If we embrace all the pain that unfortunately lives on the Earth, the weight of our powerlessness would crush us: what are we, small and limited, compared to the horrors that are perpetually perpetuated?

And yet, it would be a fatal mistake to feel untreated from acting, from contributing, even with a tiny gesture, to making the "little blue ball" on which we live better.

Of course, very few can significantly affect the political, economic, environmental and social scenarios that determine inequalities in the world, but each of us can do something to help others, near or far, known or not.

The World Blood Donor Day offers us food for thought: let's discover it together.

The slogans of the Blood Donor Day

The World Blood Donor Day was established in 2004 by the World Health Organization and falls on June 14 in honor of Karl Landsteiner, an Austrian scientist to whom we owe the identification of blood groups .

This year's slogan will be " Blood connects us all" (translated in "Blood puts us all in relation") and aims to highlight the red fio that binds donors and patients, particularly intense in all those countries, such as the Italy, which are based on voluntary and free blood collection.

This social generosity should be constantly reinforced and solicited, as suggested by the second slogan of the day " Share life, give blood " (translated in "Share life, give blood"): a gesture that for us is absolutely simple and harmless, can do the difference between life and death and really helping those in need.

The aims of the campaign

Therefore, the aims of the campaign will revolve around the following objectives :

  1. thanks to all the usual donors and the praise of their selfless generosity;
  2. the encouragement to donate, especially in young subjects, emphasizing the importance of this practice as a concrete contribution to the well-being of the whole community;
  3. the achievement of self-sufficiency of blood and blood products in each country thanks to unpaid volunteers, since still 40 countries are dependent on family or remunerated donations;
  4. implementation of the decree law of 2 November 2015 concerning the quality and safety requirements for blood and blood components.

In order for the connection between donor, donation and patient to be of the highest quality, a pre-donation selection test will be revised based on both national and European guidelines ; the new medical history questionnaire will be standardized and additional safety requirements will be introduced.

Increasingly greater protection for all the actors involved in this act of great civilization and social cohesion: giving blood is a simple gesture with which we can really make a difference for many patients.

A way to take care of each other anonymously and therefore extraordinarily generous and noble.
